West Down Views Campsite: Our Bell Tents on a cloudy afternoon

General

  • Family site in a peaceful rural setting near Ringstead in Dorset
  • A 15-minute drive to Weymouth beach and 20 minutes to Lulworth Cove
  • Dark skies site with simple pitches

West Down Views Campsite is a family-friendly site in the middle of dreamy Dorset countryside. It’s just a 15-minute drive to the beach at Weymouth, and a break here puts you close to historic spots like local author Thomas Hardy’s cottage as well as the bizarre rock formations along the spectacular Jurassic Coast.

Along with the gorgeous views of Dorset hills, guests have access to well-maintained flushing loos, hot showers and a washing-up area. As this is a dark site, it’s a good idea to bring a torch for wandering around at night.

You can jump on the South West Coast Path in Ringstead, five minutes’ drive away, and there are golf courses, riding schools and fishing lakes within 15 minutes. Pootle around those winding Dorset lanes and sooner or later you’ll come across traditional beamed and thatched pubs serving local cider and delicious seafood.

If you’d rather fend for yourselves food-wise back at base, head to the supermarkets in Weymouth for barbecue bits and bobs. There’s also oodles for kids to do there – mini golf, animal encounters at SEA LIFE Centre Weymouth, and bumper cars at Fantasy Island will keep them happily entertained all day.

Amazing site. Facilities were great, owners amazingly friendly, lovely peaceful site, great location with beaches close. Owners constantly cleaning and chatting to guests. Able to see the facilities which meant we never really waited for anything. Showers were the best I've had camping

    Disliked:

Not dislikes - just minor issues. Very few flat pitches and no O2 signal (but thats probably a good thing too!)

Beautiful campsite in a gorgeous location. All facilities up to date and well kept, showers and loos very nice. The hosts on site couldn't have been more welcoming or helpful.
We had one of the two Bell tents on site for 2 nights. Comfortable beds and really clean and comfortable. We hadn't been expecting the lights, power pack to charge our phones, blankets, fire extinguisher and first aid kit which were all nice touches. The wind break with little fairy lights around the tent was really nice too.
Fabulous location to explore Weymouth and Lulworth and surrounding area, and nice walk up and across from the site to the coastal path.

    Disliked:

Could probably do with a few more sinks as the two tiny sinks in the loos weren't really enough when everyone is getting ready in the morning.
