What customers say

Lovely, tranquil spot with super-friendly hosts. Enjoyed the nature, wildlife, and walks to Wimborne and pubs. Rustic facilities (compost loos, horsebox showers) are basic but add to the authentic vibe, though some found them pricey. Watch out for the steep access!

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Arrived at the site and was greeted by David, and was shown around the site and facilities and then David kindly took us and our stuff up to field where we would be pitching up. David was friendly and would always check see everything was ok and chat with the kids making sure their enjoying themselves. Was plenty to do on the site and surrounding area. Enjoyed a dip in the river, playing on the rope swing and football. The facilities were clean. Will definitely be coming back.

Yurt (large)

Liked Mw, my 12 year old son , my brother and his 3 year old shared a large Yurt for three nights. My sister and her family camped right by us and my other brother and his family stayed in the Yurt next to us.

I liked:
The beautiful setting.
That David (owner) was super relaxed and helpful and had no issue with us (family) all being near each other.
The yurts were spacious and kitted out with lots of essentials including a stove and extra gas.
That fridge's and freezers were available to use for water, beers, butter etc. In the same room were plugs for charging phones.
That we saw deer running past the yurts.
Cute local pub, and river for fishing and swimming near by as well as town being an east 20 min walk away.
Eco loos were preferable to porta loos.

Disliked Was all good.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked We have just returned from a 3 night stay at Farrs Meadow having had one of our most enjoyable camping trips.
The site was peaceful, beautiful and just what we were hoping for.

The Vine Inn is a short stroll away, as is the river Stour, both of which we enjoyed.

With staff that were welcoming and helpful, and a site that was full of charm and character, we are keen to return soon.

Disliked Nothing

From the manager: Thank you so much for the review and am so happy you had a great time.
Please do come back!

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Peaceful convenient setting, easy walk to Wimborne via the river and nice walks to the Vine pub (cash only ) and ice cream farm . Hosts were helpful and informative and went out of their way to accommodate.

Disliked Bit better signage would help things, sign at the road is almost illegible and not clear whether you are going up someone’s private drive or into the campsite. Facilities are quirky but basic , think it depends on expectations. Hard to evaluate as the charm and basic nature for some would be a challenge for others

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you very much for your comments and pleased that you sort of enjoyed your weekend! Sorry that the driveway proved difficult for you. Regarding the signage, I try to keep the campsite a bit of a “secret” but I fully take your point onboard.
It was lovely meeting you both and I hope you have a lovely summer.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Views from our pitch and it's location. Easily walkable along the river to Wimborne. ( a very pretty & charming town) and close to the river bank on the Stour to walk and paddle with the dog then call into the nearby Vine pub on the way back for a decent pint in picturesque beer garden

Disliked The facilities are substandard for this price point (4☆ prices for very basic amenities)
Toilets were particularly grimm long-drop compost toilets in rusty old horseboxes with no paper, water or lighting. Eco, but not pleasant to use.
Showers were similar and only worked sporadically, cattle troughs for washing up were a cute touch but wholly impractical with no drainboard area or hot water.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Stuart thank you for your review and I shall try to take any action I can to make the experience better the next people.
I am encouraged that you say you would come again. I’m sure the beautiful field and views that you had all to yourself weren’t too bad. I’m sorry the loos and showers disappointed you but a positive is they are clean and do not smell.
You gave me a very low score for my accommodation which you can’t of intended as you were in your own accommodation.
I really do hope you will come again, it was great to meet you and I’m very pleased you enjoyed what Wimborne has to offer.
Obviously this time I made an exception for you staying with your VW but next time you would have to bring a tent!
All the best,
David

Local attractions

Wimborne is a handy central location for all sorts of days out around Dorset – perhaps a day on the beach in Bournemouth, a trip to Brownsea Island from Poole Harbour or a wildlife-spotting walk through the New Forest National Park (all about half an hour’s drive away). There are family attractions galore too – the likes of Farmer Palmer’s Farm Park (25 minutes), Adventure Wonderland (35 minutes) and the Dorset Heavy Horse Farm Park (25 minutes) are perennial favourites. Heading towards the Isle of Purbeck, The Tank Museum and Monkey World-Ape Rescue Centre (both half an hour) are also good options. A little closer to home, you can head up into the lower stretches of the Cranborne Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty to see the Iron Age hillfort at Badbury Rings (10 minutes) or explore the National Trust’s Kingston Lacy estate (five minutes), home to a grand Italianate mansion and a Japanese garden. Wimborne (five minutes) is worth a wander too, to see the minster and the model village.
