General

  • Rural site among spectacular scenery on a private farm estate
  • A few miles from Wareham and under 30 minutes to Swanage and Studland
  • Peaceful and family-friendly wildlife haven

Deer in a wildlife haven, ancient oaks in a wide green field, and manor house views on a secluded Dorset site… be tremendously sensible and book Trigon Farm as soon as poss.

Set in a rural field near Wareham with views of Trigon Manor house and arable fields to the left and beyond, this is a fab site for families: hidden away from main roads and traffic, with stacks of space for running around and big scope for mini nature hunters to roam around and spot deer, buzzards and woodpeckers.

There are cows to spy too, as Trigon is on a beef cattle farm with the farming part of the site across the estate; the curious can watch the Trigon cows laze about in the adjoining fields and see the workings of everyday farming all around. Off site, it's a few miles to Wareham from here (Monkey World is a must), and less than half an hour's drive to spectacular Dorset beaches at Studland and Swanage.

And by evening? As befits a site such as this, firepits and barbecues are allowed – so sort your supplies and sit back to snuggle up under the stars. Your closest pitstops for stocking up are the convenience shop and mini market at the Carey Road entrance to Trigon two miles down the lane; much more can be sorted in Wareham's shops and supermarkets or at its Saturday market.

Amenities include four huts with flushing toilets, four shower huts with free hot water, a washing-up area, drinking water taps, and rubbish and recycling bins. The farm has a phone signal as well as 3G and 4G.

Jayne & Rob have obviously put a lot of work into the camping on their farm and it shows. The field is lovely and spacious, with great views all around, cows in the adjacent fields and owls hooting at night. The washing facilities are excellent - plentiful and clean, with even some flowers by the sinks. There's very little noise on the site besides country sounds, other campers and the occasional background explosions from the distant tank ranges. It's really a fantastically peaceful place to spend some time, made even better by the enthusiasm and welcoming nature of the hosts. There's also superb walking nearby.

We came here for a long weekend stay. The site is spacious with basic facilities, but done to a good standard: decent showers and toilets, cleaned regularly, plus a washing up area with hot water.
There is lots of space for children to play, and a nice wooden goalpost, though there's no enclosure or apparatus.

They allow fires provided you use a fire pit. (You can hire them or bring your own.) They also have wood for sale if you need that.

The owners are friendly - we had several chats - and really helpful too.

    Disliked:

Some bigger sites have a cafe or a camping supplies shop, but this doesn't. After all, it's a small farm campsite. It provides only for basic camping, but does that really well.

Location and the facilities were amazing. The pitches were level and really spaced out, plenty of room for everyone. Very peaceful and tucked away from the world, yet a short drive to beaches and walks. The stunning manor made for a lovely back drop and the facilities were sparkling clean.

Loved the setting (lovely farm field with cows grazing on the adjacent field) and all the space (it's a huge area which could easily cram in 70 odd tents but the owners choose to limit it at around 25 which makes for a wonderful spacious campsite).

Always a bonus to have campfires and BBQs permitted (with fire pits available to hire and logs for sale too, all at a reasonable price).

The showers, toilets and sink areas are the loveliest I've seen - perfectly clean and have bags of character with lots of little aesthetic touches, rather than the utilitarian shower blocks which so many other campsites provide. The trade-off is that the queuing area for showers/toilets and the sinks are all outdoors, so wouldn't be the most fun in the rain but all part of the camping experience, I suppose!

You can tell a lot of thought has gone into making it a lovely site and a great experience.

The site also appeals to families and couples, with groups not permitted, which makes for a peaceful and relaxing stay. All our fellow campers were very mindful of noise and I do believe that is mainly to do with the owners' cultivating a particular kind of experience when you come to stay at Trigon Farm.

Nothing apart from a bit of a poor signal on my phone. I was on EE, however my partner had no problems on tesco. Hardly Trigons fault though so trivial

Local attractions

As well as its shops – and pubs – Wareham, three miles away, has a pretty quay for picnic spots, a cinema and a public swimming pool, and is the starting point for boat trips to spectacular Poole Harbour. Wareham golf club is less than 10 minutes' drive from the farm.

Hikers should head to the nearby Purbeck Hills or the Dorset Downs (part of the southern England Chalk Group that also includes Salisbury Plain and the South Downs). Top spots for adventuring and exploring days include the famed Old Harry Rocks, Lulworth Cove and Lulworth Castle – and if your junior adventurers are of the Enid Blyton variety, they'll like a look at Corfe Castle too, said to be the inspiration for Kirrin Castle in the Famous Five books.

More walking, as well as cycling, can be sorted at the Sika Trail, two miles away.
