  • Peaceful, dog-friendly rural farm site in the Dorset countryside
  • A five-minute drive to Swanage and half an hour to the Jurassic Coast
  • Back to basics site with drinking water, toilets, and showers
From castle gambols to digging for treasure in the sand, the Jurassic Coast and the serene Dorset countryside are your stomping grounds when you stay at Quarr Camping. Between the novel-esque Corfe Castle and the traditional seaside town of Swanage, this family-friendly site is well situated for an action-packed holiday of countryside capers or simply a spot of well-deserved seaside relaxation. Toot toot… what’s that sound? The traditional steam railway is nearby, and the heritage railway of Harman’s Cross railway station quite literally around the corner (10 minutes’ walk). Explore the area on foot, wheels or rail, and tick off coastal must-sees such as Durdle Door, Dancing Ledge, and Winspit Quarry, all within a 30-minute drive. Once you’re done, lean back and listen to a countryside soundtrack – crickets, cows, and all sorts of countryside animals – on this peaceful rural farm site, welcoming families, dogs and all countryside enthusiasts. You'll have to prepare to get back to basics at this site, but it's got running drinking water, toilets, showers and a chemical disposal point. Plus, you can complete the true outdoor experience with a campfire or barbecue, picking up supplies from the local shop within a 10-minute stroll. If a pint or pub grub is on your mind, there are also several pubs within five minutes’ drive. You’ll certainly need the fuel after an action-packed day of watersports, coastal hiking or biking, or sightseeing your way around.

What customers say

A popular, no-frills spot with loads of space and a chill vibe. Guests love the steam trains and the awesome hay bale play area for kids. Toilets and showers are kept spotless. Great base for exploring Swanage. Good value, though facilities are basic, with coin showers and some uneven bits.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Everything. Perfect, back to basics holiday with the family (and pooch!)

No frills, but no frills were needed. Facilities were cleaned regularly and well stocked, showers were available and the hay bales were utilised massively by my kids who spent hours playing on them with new found friends.

Definitely one we would love to return to.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Have been coming here for years literally from day one the camp site opened, you know what you are getting no thrills back to basics camping but with clean toilets and showers. Close to corfe castle, Swanage, durdle door, Poole etc choices are available for days out.

Disliked This time we seemed to have an infestation of ticks not sure if we were unlucky and pitched on a nest?

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked The staff were friendly and helpful

Disliked The facilities were poor. Only one wash basin in the toilets so that mornings and evenings there were people wanting to wash their hands after using the toilet and someone cleaning their teeth in the only basin.
No way of knowing if someone was in the toilet cubicle so you had to pull on the door to find out
Nowhere to put your clothes in the shower except the floor
Showers were 20p for 2 minutes whether you had the water on or not
Sinks for washing up were out in the open.
A long walk to the facilities from the tent
Facilities were not particularly clean
Staff only on site after 5pm sometimes later

From the manager: Thank you for complementing our staff, its a shame you don't appear to have enjoyed your stay however we'd like pick up on a few of your points - correct there is only one basin in the designated women's toilets however there is 5 other basins in the unisex block situated next to this as well as 3 sinks outside.
I'm sure no one minded a slight pull on a door to see if it's in use although most people leave them ajar when vacant.
There are hooks on all the shower doors so not sure why you felt the need to leave your clothes on the floor.
Coins are used for the showers to ensure people aren't spending excessively long periods in the showers making the wait longer for others and sadly the meters have to be situated on the outside of the wet room due to water and electrics not mixing well.
2 of our 4 washing up sinks have a shelter and as we clarified on your arrival you are allowed to pitch where you like - this can be as close to or as far from the toilets as you choose - we can not change the fact you chose to pitch in the furthest point from them.
We pride ourselves on our facilities being well maintained and being 'proper' toilets as opposed to smelly portaloos.
And lastly regarding the staff only being around from 5pm, we update our board daily with the times we will be at reception - this being 9-10am and 5-7pm (sometimes staying later than stated) on the days of your stay, also advising to call us if there are any problems outside of these times.
Thanks again for your review.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Liked the steam trains that went by, toilets and showers are clean, saw some cute baby deers running and playing on the field at the top. Great location, people at reception was really lovely and they have a man come in a van in the morning with drinks, food, groceries that you can purchase at a good price which was actually fantastic as me and my partner forgot to buy bread and milk the night before for breakfast.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked The whole area is not flat, which gives a nice view. The old steam trains go nearby, which is quite cool, at the same time, not too often. The facilities are ok

Disliked The showers are not the most convenient

Local attractions

You’ll feel like you’ve stumbled into a scene from a storybook at Harman’s Cross station (10 minutes’ walk). Pick a picnic bench, gaze at the old-school platforms and Portland stone period buildings and watch as the trains roll by. More history hangs heavy in the air at Corfe Castle (five minutes’ drive). The Jurassic Coast is where you’ll find most of the action… head down early to beat the crowds to Durdle Door (30 minutes) and its neighbour Lulworth Cove. It's hard to beat a shoreline that has silky sand, iconic landmarks and paddle-worthy waters all in one. Tick your way along the coast, beginning with a dip in the shallow pool at Dancing Ledge (5 minutes), and then on to Winspit Quarry (15 minutes) and the clifftop Durlston Country Park and National Nature Reserve (15 minutes)… or pick between watersports or a sandcastle face-off on the beaches of Sandbanks (40 minutes) and Studland (10 minutes).
