  • Peaceful Lynmouth site with views over the Bristol Channel
  • In Exmoor National Park, 30 minutes' drive to Ilfracombe and Minehead
  • Food shop and wifi on site; five minutes' drive to Lynmouth harbour
In need of a Devon des res with smashing views? Lynmouth Holiday Retreat is a quiet site in the hills above Lynton and Lynmouth in the Exmoor National Park. As it's got direct access to the A39, it's a top contender if you're looking for a base to explore the Devon and Somerset coast. Needless to say, there's plenty of stunning scenery around here: keep your eyes peeled for resident wildlife like wild ponies, red deer and birds of prey. The surrounding countryside is also full of trails for rural rambles, including the long-distance South West Coast Path. Dogs are welcome at the site and direct access to footpaths makes it a breeze to keep Fido fit and healthy. Lynmouth Holiday Retreat has plenty of practical benefits too: facilities include a food shop, wifi, a washing-up area and a launderette to keep your gear spick and span. If you find yourself getting peckish, feel free to set up a barbecue, order a takeaway or head down into Lynton (five minutes away) to stock up at the supermarket. You'll likely want to linger here for a stroll around its picture-worthy cottages, fishing boats and genteel Victorian buildings. Alternatively, forage for your own supper by taking the kids crabbing down at Lynmouth harbour (five minutes' drive).

What customers say

Super clean, well-run campsite with great staff. Amazing views, peaceful vibe, and top-notch facilities like a dishwasher and modern showers. Spacious pitches, though some town walks are hilly. Good base for exploring, and the food van/bakery are a hit!

Beggar's Field electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Really lovely clean site. Washing facilities super clean, no issues at all. Everyone was really friendly and helpful.

Disliked Please bare in mind this is a windy exposed site. We originally booked a sea view pitch and realised we needed to move on arrival as it was not safe to have our pop top up. Not the sites staffs fault at all. Weather is unpredictable but if you are going out of season I would definitely book something like Beggars field for example. It is not completely in-closed but felt safer here. We had a VW van.

From the manager: Thank you for your kind review.🌟
We’re really pleased to hear you enjoyed the cleanliness of the site and found our facilities and team to be helpful and welcoming—that means a lot to us.

We also really appreciate your understanding regarding the exposed nature of some of our pitches. As you mentioned, coastal weather can be quite unpredictable, particularly out of season, and safety is always the priority. We’re glad we were able to assist you in finding a more suitable spot during your stay. 🌧️

We hope to welcome you back again in the future—perhaps in calmer weather next time! ✨

The View fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Excellent site. We arrived late after having van troubles and weren’t able to let the site know in advance. We arrived and phoned the number on the door, slightly anxious about our booking, but couldn’t have been made more welcome - they were completely understanding.

The next day we walked down to the enclosed field to let our dog have a run. The grass was being cut, but the gentleman noticed us and very kindly stopped what he was doing so we could use it. We also enjoyed the pastries in the morning, we’d missed the ordering time for that day, but they kindly cooked a couple extra anyway.

WiFi signal was excellent, the site is very well presented, and the facilities are great. Overall, incredibly welcoming and accommodating - nothing was too much trouble. Very grateful for your hospitality, thank you.

Disliked Absolutely nothing to dislike.

Local attractions

Guests here have plenty of attractions and activities on their doorstep in and around Lynton and Lynmouth (five minutes' drive). For a novel way to travel between the two, try the funicular cliff railway that connects the twin towns. In the surrounding countryside, you can marvel at the geological formations of the Valley of the Rocks (10 minutes) or head out to the forest around Watersmeet (15 minutes) for waterfalls and an elegant Victorian tea room. Many head to this part of the country in search of outdoor pursuits, so sporty types may well be pleased to learn that Lynmouth Holiday Retreat is close to a stables (10 minutes), fishing lake (20 minutes) and golf club (40 minutes). To really get that blood pumping, hike some or all of the 14 miles along the coast to Combe Martin, a hilly stretch of the South West Coast Path that includes this trail's highest point. You may, of course, prefer a day lounging on the beach (and with beaches like these, who can blame you?). Top seaside towns nearby include Minehead, with its rockpools, and Ilfracombe with its castle and aquarium (both half an hour away).
