  • CAMC members-only touring pitches west of Dartmoor National Park
  • Callington 10 minutes’ drive; Plymouth 35 minutes
  • Dogs welcome; a 10-minute drive from Tamar Valley’s riverside trails
Both East Cornwall and Dartmoor National Park are yours to explore from South View Certificated Location, a peaceful, family-friendly site that welcomes members of the Caravan and Motorhome Club. Simply drive up to your pitch on the splendidly maintained touring field (surrounded by high hedges), and start your Cornish holiday. Where will your first hike take you? Perhaps along the forested trails of the Danescombe Valley (less than one kilometre away). Or maybe into the Tamar Valley National Landscape (10 minutes’ drive), where your dog might take pleasure at jumping in and out of the river or at scrambling up Kit Hill (20 minutes), from the top of which you can see as far as Dartmoor on a clear day. The area was renowned during the Industrial Revolution for its deposits of tin, so there are also heaps of historic mining sites to check out, such as Morwellham Quay. Hard-core hikers might want to have a go at a section of the 87-kilometre Tamara Trail, which takes you from the south to the north coast of Cornwall. Speaking of coast… the nearest beaches (Tregantle, Freathy and Downderry) are a 40-minute drive away, but there is also Dandy Hole (35 minutes), a small beach on the Lynher River that’s a popular spot for yachting, canoeing and other watersports. After a day of local exploration, you might well be hungry. Stock up on anything you need in Callington (10 minutes), get the barbecue going and devour your meal under a sky filled with stars.

What customers say

A chill, welcoming, and budget-friendly spot for a tranquil getaway with loads of wildlife. Reviewers loved the spick-and-span loos and showers, roomy spots, and clued-up owners. Access roads are a bit tight, and the nearby caravan storage might look a bit rough 'round the edges, but it's no biggie. A few mentioned no wash-up sinks or Wi-Fi, and that local walks are quite steep. Great base for seeing the sights.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch (members only)

Liked Good no nonsense, quiet peaceful, nice location. Nice host.

Disliked 20ps for shower. I’d rather pay a bit more for the pitch, but understand many don’t use these facilities and don’t want to pay for them.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thankyou for your kind words, we accept your comment on the 20ps for the showers, we added the showers to improve the experience here for those that haven’t got there own facilities, which have proven popular. The fact we have it coin operated unfortunately is due to the expense of the current electricity prices. However it’s understood by some of our guests, that 20p gives a nice no nonsense shower , however unlike my self , if you have more hair , it may take 2x20ps . We always have plenty of change , so please come and see us if we haven’t already explained and offered you some on your arrival.
Thankyou

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch (members only)

Liked Cheap and cheerful

Disliked Narrow roads leading to site, first impression is un kept , but that's the storage area you drive through. Site was mowed lawn , firm soil so driveable. Cheap and cheerful, owner very pleasant fella.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thankyou for your nice comments, and we are sorry your first impressions weren’t more positive. The approach roads are used every day by the local bus service and other large vehicles visiting the nearby businesses , however there are some more narrower country lanes nearby. We are currently leaving the field on the approach to the campsite, opposite the storage area uncut to encourage more birds, and it’s been a wonderful experience so far.
Thankyou

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch (members only)

Liked Very quiet, very friendly, great hosts. Do not be put off by some comments of caravan storage, it's no bother at all unless you're a snob! You go to cornwall to enjoy the Cornish way of life, the Beauty of the County and the peace that it brings. Touring field is enclosed and quiet, with beautiful sunsets. Everything you need is local enough. Toilets and shower were spotless. One night had the entire field to ourselves. Site is approx. Half an hour from Plymouth, 45 mins from Looe and it is dark at night, perfect for stargazing. Spent hours watching the birds in the day, the bats in the evening, and on the morning we left there was a deer and fawn in their garden.

Disliked The M5.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Well what a wonderful review, thankyou for taking the time to review our site, and we do try to ensure customers enjoy there time with us, however unfortunately as the M5 is an hour away and not in our current ownership, we are unable to help with your experience there. Thankyou and we hope to see you again, perhaps via a different route.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch (members only)

Liked We stayed here for 5 nights. It was clean with good facilities and peaceful. The owners were friendly and helpful.

Disliked The walks from the site tended to be hilly, which I cannot do at the moment.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thankyou for your kind review, and we are pleased you enjoyed your stay, sadly some of the walking routes to the left of the campsite going down in the valley can be slightly steeper than others, so please ask and we can always direct you to the less challenging walks that our around us. And we wish a speedy recovery so that you may take on and enjoy all the wonderful walks nearby . Thankyou
Nikki and Chris

Liked Spacious pitches in attractive field surrounded by trees and hedges. Nice clean shower and toilet. Helpful and friendly owners who loaned me a map and gave directions for lovely walks through woodland to nearby Cotehele plus other recommendations for local walks. Excellent location for visiting Cotehele

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch (members only)

Liked The location is quiet and private
There are toilets and a shower block
Abundance of wildlife: bats, owls and other birds.
The owners are nice people.

Disliked You are next to a caravan storage yard, but that doesn’t detract from the experience.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thankyou for your kind comments, we also enjoy the wildlife here and are noticing more campers are also experiencing more sightings of the owls and deer in not only our fields, but nearby fields as well. Just to address your comments on the storage area on the way up to the site, we’ve tried to keep this area separate and out of view from the campsite so as not to become a distraction. Our customers who store with us for various reasons, some don’t have suitable vehicles or have become less confident in towing due to age, we are delighted to offer the service , that we can site the vans when they visit . But we will try in future to keep an eye on how this area looks to our campers.
Thankyou
Nikki and Chris

Local attractions

At the Tamar Valley Donkey Park (five minutes’ drive, or a 15-minute walk), residents also include pygmy goats and Shetland ponies. The kids get to meet, feed and pet the animals (if they like, they can also groom a donkey), and there’s an indoor adventure play area with climbing structures and tunnels. National Trust - Cotehele (five minutes) is a Tudor house on a hill overlooking a bend in the River Tamar. The interior features period tapestries and furniture, while the gardens include apple and cherry orchards; colourful floral terraces from where you can see the Calstock Viaduct; and a pond inhabited by frogs. There’s loads to see in Plymouth (35 minutes) – from the historic port area, with the Mayflower Steps Memorial honouring the Pilgrim Fathers that set off from here to the New World, to waterfront Hoe Park, a clifftop green with a lighthouse and an Art Deco swimming pool.
