General

  • Peaceful family-friendly site on a working farm in Kent’s High Weald
  • A 5-minute drive from Cranbrook and the start of several walking paths
  • Country store and farm shop on site; barbecues and campfires allowed

In need of a getaway full of peace, quiet, scenic walking trails and spectacular towns and villages? How about something a little more adrenaline fuelled? Or maybe you’re after something in between… Whatever you’re looking for, Star Field Camping and Glamping – a family-friendly site on a working farm five minutes’ drive from the small town of Cranbrook in Kent – has it covered.

There are plenty of trails nearby for anyone who likes a good amble: several loop walks start in Cranbrook, leading through the High Weald countryside around the town, and there are plenty of trails through the nearby Bedgebury National Pinetum and Forest.

For more activity than you’d get from a sedate walk through the woods, try ziplining, tarzan swings and treetop adventures at Go Ape in Bedgebury, go kayaking or paddleboarding at Adventure Activities Sussex, or get your adrenaline pumping at Arena Pursuits, all less than 20 minutes from the site.

Back on site, pick up supplies from the country store and farm shop, pile the barbecue high for dinner, then kick up your feet by the campfire to unwind. Want someone else to do the cooking? There are lots of restaurants within 10 minutes' drive.

Amazing campsite! I've done a lot of camping and this might be one of the best I've stayed at! The large pitches felt like we were in nature, the sound of the owls at night and other animals was priceless. This was probably due to the fact we came at the end of the season, but so glad we took this trip to lovely Kent! Had a lovely sunset the second night which felt amazing.
The fact you have your own little fire pit was the best (you can purchase wood and a fire starter bag from the farm shop) the compost loos are a great sustainable idea and as for the shower, probably the hottest shower I've ever had at a campsite! I was expecting it to be freezing cold and was pleasantly surprised when it turned out to be nice and hot! Owners were lovely! Came and made sure we had everything. The Farm Shop and Nursery is also amazing to buy local products and we took home a lovely rosemary plant. 100% would return, maybe in Autumn if they are open? :)

Thank you so much for your lovely review, we are closed from 1st October and won't be registering with this site next year, but please do come again. We will be making a few improvements but still keeping the back to basics and eco ethics which we firmly believe in.

Hi, thank you for your review, as you are anonymous I can't work out where your pitch was to comment on walking routes, however we will be mowing different paths next year.

Farm shop, people and location. Thought showers and loos were great. Personally we liked how open and temporary the showers but site was very quiet so can understand with lots of use they might have felt different. We really enjoyed our stay and basic but perfect set up. Night sky was amazing.

    Disliked:

It is made very clear that the site is on a slope so this isn’t a criticism of the listing but it was one aspect of our stay that presented challenges with setting up sleeping arrangements and boiling water! Otherwise everything was absolutely ideal.

From the manager...

Hi Jo, thanks for your review and recommendation to a friend. I think any previous references to our showers are from last year when we had plastic portable ones, this year we are very proud of our loos and showers which David made, we never get busy because we have decided we prefer it that way, although it was extremely quiet when you were here! Just to let you know we won't be listing on this site next year.

Lovely spacious campsite, with private pitches and lots of room. Clean toilets and showers and washing up station, with all the necessary supplies included.
Lovely hosts, and friendly staff in the countrystore, who were happy to charge my phone and selected an appropriate lead to purchase for my dog (as I forgot to pack it!). Handy farm shop with lovely fresh bread and gluten free brownie.
Would definitely recommend and will definitely return.

A quiet field, plenty of space between pitches, giving the children lots of space to run around and play without disturbing other campers. The site is kept as natural as possible, with very little light on the field, making it possible for the kids to spend hours star gazing. Fire pits are provided on the pitches, which was a massive plus for the the kids as they enjoyed toasting marshmallows.
The toilets were clean and well presented. The shows was lovely, warm and clean.
We hope to be back here in the future. A fantastic site.

Local attractions

If you haven’t got your fill of countryside exploration from your walks, hire an e-bike in Biddenden and follow some of the recommended routes, one of which takes you to the local vineyards and lets you sample the vino at Hush Heath Estate and Kent’s oldest vineyard at Biddenden.

To see part of Kent under someone else’s steam, head to Tenterden to climb aboard the Kent and East Sussex Railway steam train, and soak in the views from the carriage as you travel the hour-long route from Tenterden from Bodiam.

While in Bodiam, take a trip to the spectacular moated Bodiam Castle, a 14th-century medieval castle with a ruined interior. If that’s whetted your appetite for history and stately homes, you won’t find yourself at a loss – wander the gardens at Sissinghurst Castle, take a look around the Victorian manor house at Scotney Castle and take some time to smell the roses at Pashley Manor Gardens, all within 20 minutes' drive.

For one last look at the countryside, seek out a new perspective: treat yourself to a pleasure flight over Leeds Castle, Camber Sands, Dover Docks, Tenterden, Rye and Canterbury at Headcorn Aerodrome, 20 minutes from the site.
