General

  • Scenic east Kent site set on a working fruit farm
  • Canterbury 15 minutes by car; 25 minutes to Whitstable
  • Rural scenery with peaceful orchards and a 16th-century thatched barn

The folk down at Woolton Farm know a thing or two about this stretch of land – they've been working it for over 100 years. The Mount family who run the place turn out some of the finest fruit, ciders and English wines around and are well-known in the trade. They also do a nice little sideline in outdoor accommodation and have some high-end tents set up on one of the loveliest bits of their farm…

The tents are located at the back of the fruit garden – where most of the varieties grown by the Mounts are on display – next to a row of cobnut trees. They're spaciously spread out over the green surrounds, with views of the fruit garden and the site's gorgeous 16th-century thatched barn. Birds of prey like buzzards can regularly be spotted circling overhead (in the evening they can be heard mewing in the skies above).

Inside, the accommodation is equipped with coconut matting, comfy mattresses, a central table and a powerful rechargeable torch. It's a short walk from here to the well-maintained toilets, showers and disabled washroom. A washing-up area, with fridges and a freezer, is also available to help with meal prep. Secure charging lockers for mobile phones and other small gadgets are available free of charge.

On selected days the friendly site team set up an open-air bar where you can sample Woolton Farm's own wine and award-winning cider. Other local booze and soft drinks are for sale here, as are ice creams and strawberries (farm-grown, of course). A barbecue is organised throughout the afternoon on some weekends (check with site staff for details).

This well-connected site is 15 minutes' drive from the cathedral city of Canterbury and 25 minutes from top coastal spots like Whitstable beach and Sandwich.

The site it’s self was lovely, toilets, shower facility’s car parking

    Disliked:

We went as a group of 6 hired 2 teepee, we wasn’t loud or too much but we felt very out of place - this place should only be sold to family’s, you are not allowed to play any music not allowed a bbq on the site and the tents are far too close together. We needed up walking away from the site in order to be able to have a conversation without being told to be quite. I feel we really wasted our money staying here as it wasn’t fit for purpose. The site should clearly state what is and isn’t allowed prior to booking, the lady who showed us to our tent on arrival said was ok for a bbq later we had the manager telling us we shouldn’t have? PLEASE BE MORE CLEAR

Had a great time at Woolton farm. Appreciated the kitchen - fridge and freezer, sink, and microwave. The BBQ also came in handy! The staff were lovely and so helpful and it was fantastic having the bar open during the day. I tasted their delicious ciders and my kids loved the ice cream and juices. Would definitely return. Also, for those, like me, who are car free, we were able to walk with all of our gear from the train station easily.

Lovely weekend at charming Woolton Farm09/01/2020

We had a lovely weekend with our two little ones at Woolton Farm! The Bell tent was very comfortable with thoughtful touches (bunting on the outside, torch in tent, little decorations) and had the the feeling of proper camping with the convenience of a shower, toilets, washing up facilities, fridge/freezer and a bar selling their delicious wine and Kentish Pip Cider!
Beautiful place and very comfortable for a weekend away with the kids, we will be back!

    Disliked:

The wi-fi was a bit patchy but we quite enjoyed having an excuse to be offline, so this wasn't necessarily a bad thing.

It was such a beautiful setting behind the thatched barn and in amongst the apple trees you couldn't fault the setting. Especially as it is all so new, the facilities were really well appointed and plenty of space for all the guests. Very quiet and rural setting perfect for star gazing and peaceful evenings. Useful touch with the charging lockers for phones and torch. Excellent bar open every day so you could come back to base for a refreshing pint of home brewed cider, beer or wine grown on the farm with the option to purchase them to take home which we did! Will be back it was such a shame we left on a Friday as we were told there is yoga on a Friday evening as well as a BBQ which would have been lovely to join in with - but good to keep something for next time

    Disliked:

The bell tent was on quite a slope which made sleeping a tad difficult so I would pack a few more items to pad out the beds - I believe it is the only tent that is on such a camber (Number 5) so I would request one of the others.
