Bowses Hill Farm: Grass pitches

General

  • Family-run 10-acre farm site with woodlands just outside Blackpool
  • A 25-minute drive to Blackpool Wake Park and Blackpool Zoo
  • Logs available to buy; firepits and barbecues permitted; shop nearby

Everything outdoorsy runs strong at Bowses Hill Farm, a family-run dog-friendly site with the tender touch of owners George and Charlotte, two big nature and outdoors lovers. It’s certainly nature-packed here, as the 10-acre farm is in a rural patch outside of Blackpool, and it has opened up its land for like-minded, keen explorers to get back to nature within the woodlands.

You’ll be going down a privately-owned lane, tucked away… and once you're on site, there’s a nice mix of the homely and the wild. The owners want you to really appreciate nature, so an afternoon may look like wildlife spotting, den-building or searching for hidden tree drawings in the woodlands – or perhaps getting your hands dirty with some bushcraft activities or picking up wood and logs for a firepit.

The site still has cosy creature comforts though, including a smart toilet/shower block opened for the summer 2021 season. There are logs available to buy from the site so that you may get a fire or barbecue going for some wild cooking, being sure to be mindful of their location, away from other guests and disposed of correctly.

This is a wildlife haven with a peaceful stay in mind, so guests are asked to be respectful of the woodlands, leaving them unruffled, and noise levels must be kept down after 10.30pm to ensure little visitors and tired guests can get a good snooze.

Conveniently, the local shop is just five minutes’ drive away from this site, so it’s easy to get your hands on more logs or other essentials ready to get exploring.

Please note

Guests are advised to bring a good quality flashlight with them as parts of the park are unlit.

There is no reception building on-site: on arrival please contact the number provided on your booking confirmation.

No naked flames are allowed inside the hired accommodation units.

A £20 deposit is required for the firepit hire.

The hot tub will be prepared, but not lit, in advance. Please allow between one and two hours for it to be at the desired temperature.

Play area for kids. My son loved the farm animals especially the dogs.
    Great spot off grid.

    Disliked:

Shower cubicle. Although these were very clean and maintained, the cubicle was too small for changing in, with only one hook on the door. May benefit from a shelf or rail in the cubicle. Will take a towelling robe next time so can get changed at accommodation or in a dry cubicle.

Great stay. Warm welcome from the gent who greeted us, showed us to our tent and explained everything on site. Tent was perfect and the shower and toilet block was excellent and only a 60 second walk from the tents.
The play area and farm was a great touch, and this site is ideal for families with children.
Located in an ideal location in the countryside, but only a short drive into Blackpool and Fleetwood. Also make sure you check out the pub Seven Stars just a few minutes drive, Super friendly staff and amazing food,

Log burner and provided bed linen

    Disliked:

For £95 the tent was quite basic. I would have thought we’d get mugs in there and a little more decor.

As the photos on the website show a complete different image of what you get.

For £95 i’d have thought logs would be provided for the log burner.

Only stayed 1 night, arrived in the dark and left first thing in the morning so didn't really get to see the full site.

    Disliked:

Very expensive for what it is. £48.85 per night for 2 adults and a child to camp. Toilet block is fine but very small shower cubicles and only 1 small hand basin in the gents.

From the manager...

Hi Stuart,

As you've stated you arrived in the dark and then left first thing in the morning, I don't think you got chance to fully explore our site and surrounding areas. it's also January so very dark, if booked directly we currently have an offer for 50% off bookings due to winter months which would of benefited you.

I don't think you got chance to see everything, We have a full children's play area made from our trees with swings and slides, plus climbing ropes. We also have a 1 acre peddle bike track for children to play on and a large selection of farm animals to interact with.

This is reflected within our pricing as we're completely different to anything in the surrounding area.

Our shower cubicles are very practical with a shelf area within the main toilet for getting ready with power sockets and a large mirror, as our site grows we can invest further for the comfort of all our guest's.

We'd love you to come back and experience our site for what it can fully offer, we hope to see you again soon.

Kind Regards

George & Charlotte - Bowses Hill Farm

Loved the farm, little wooden area and we pitched in the grass which was perfect for us and our tent size. It's not a big site so the fact there was only 1 other family on the grass pitch gave us plenty of room

    Disliked:

No fault of Browses Hill but there is another camp site close by and not sure how common it is but this Saturday night in September there was loud music and a MC broadcasting til 2am. Our girls are over 5 so managed to sleep through it. However lots of crying from other campers with toddlers and well husband and I just had to keep waking up til the music stopped.

Local attractions

You may know Blackpool for its seafront and 19th-century Central Pier (half an hour’s drive) complete with a funfair, but the attractions certainly don’t end there. You might have a hard time deciding between catapulting down waterslides in Sandcastle Waterpark (35 minutes), dropping from heights at Blackpool Pleasure Beach (35 minutes) or playing like a prisoner on the theatrical rides in the The Blackpool Tower Dungeon (half an hour).

Water ready too? Blackpool Wake Park (25 minutes) has an aqua park where you'll be able to get your bounce on. Watersports are on full throttle here too, with everything from wakeboarding to kayaking. St Annes beach (40 minutes) will keep up this spirit too, as the sandy stretch is a hotspot for windsurfing and kitesurfing (and donkey rides, in typical seaside style too).

To wind things back down, the town has a few spots for a more leisurely pace. Perhaps a tour of the enclosures in Blackpool Zoo (25 minutes), getting up and close with the wax figures at Madame Tussauds (half an hour) or seeing what life looks like underwater at SEA LIFE Blackpool (half an hour)?

Must see

  • The Blackpool Tower (11.1 kilometres)
  • Blackpool Illuminations (11.4 kilometres)

  • Rufford Old Hall (29.7 kilometres)
