Pitches

General

  • Family site over 130 acres of parkland, well placed for Hadrian's Wall
  • Within walking distance of Silloth and close to the Galloway Hills
  • Kids' clubs, play centres, bars and indoor pool with spa

Off to the Lake District, the Scottish Borders or Hadrian's Wall – and want a park with heaps to do on site for your little centurions?

Nearby Solway Holiday Village should fit the bill, as it's a Hagans Leisure park packed with activities and is close to the England/Scotland border with opps for many days out in either land: it's within walking distance of Victorian seaside town Silloth on the Solway Firth with over 20 miles of coastline to cast off at, close to kitesurfing and windsurfing at Allonby and a quick hop around the Firth to Scotland’s Galloway Hills.

The park is spread spaciously over 130 acres of good-looking parkland with heaps of things to do for all sizes and tastes: kids can submerge themselves in the kids’ club and outdoor and indoor play centre, while the whole family can dive into the all-weather sports facilities, family bars, entertainment complex with Sky Sports and fab heated indoor pool with spa. Entertainment passes for the indoor pool and kids' club are included in the pitch price.

Not sure where to start? Pile the crew into Solway’s tourist train for a squint around: you’ll also spot the amusement arcade and tennis courts (small charge applies), and up to date amenities including free heated showers, covered dishwashing area, water points, coin launderette, bistro and takeaway.

If you’re bringing your tent, tourer or motorhome to Solway, the touring area is only five minutes’ walk from reception and is flat and grassy with car parking available beside each pitch.

This site is a member of Hagans Leisure group.

Large pitches, facilities clean and tidy, warm welcome on arrival, plenty to do on site most things up and running with extra covid measures in place.

    Disliked:

Touring pitches were slightly bogy and some roads round sight in poor condition, but that's being picky.

The site and facilities were clean, quiet and the toilets were well kept. Our initial pitch was boggy so we were able to move which was much better. Plenty of space on site meant we were able to move with no problem.

Staff were polite although they were enforcing some unpractical COVID rules. You could see it was a challenge.

We had a nice time though which was the whole point of the break.

    It's very dog friendly.

    Disliked:

The site was very tired looking. It really needs the roads repairing and a bucket of paint throwing round.

We were told different opening times for the facilities by different members of staff which led to wasted trips and confusion.

The pool changing rooms were closed (due to COVID apparently) and we were told to walk back to our van after swimming in our towels. It's not fair to ask young families to walk in the cold whilst wet!

The restaurant refused to serve us a glass of tap water with our meal, again because of Covid, so we needed to complain.

The following meal they refused again because we only bought Cider and Coke they said they can only serve tap water with food.

Prices were a little steep and the atmosphere was tense and uncomfortable but again I appreciate the staff are under restrictions.

The local town was almost non existent although it's not the parks fault for this.

Very neglected. the road surfaces were all cracked and weeds growing through. Areas were once had caravans had broken decking just left on the site. Toilets and showers looked neglected so didn’t even go in them. There appeared to be very little Covid hygiene on the site, not very reassuring. Glad we only had one night there

Very nice site - clearly a lot of investment and care and attention to detail. Very clean and new facilities. Pitch had new hard standing and was perfectly flat.
Location is superb - fabulous views over the Solway towards Kirkcudbright.
Lovely Secluded little bay 5 minute walk through woods from the site.
I didn’t check if there was WiFi so cant rate that aspect.
Booked at the last minute and arrived early evening but the owner still found time to come and say hello.
    I can recommend.

Great site with many things to see and do. Having a 3 year old with us we needed options for her to not be bored and the site certainly has options. On site shop and bar were reasonable price wise.

    Disliked:

You have to book 45 min slots for swimming and can not book back to back when in my opinion it wasn’t overly busy. They did not have any evening entertainment on at all however This is due to covid so can understand the reasoning. We tried the take out food and for the price it was very poor, we did not try the restaurant food based on the quality of the take out and the price. Could have had a better selection of draught beers.

Local attractions

On the English side of the Firth, Solway guests can reach the north-western lakes of the Lake District National Park, day trips to Carlisle and the hills and stargazing of Northumberland National Park. On the Scottish side, you could hike the Galloway Hills, run away to Gretna or drive further afield to urban days out at Edinburgh or Glasgow.

(To see it all at once, take a trip to championship Solway Golf Course where you can tee around to views of the Lakeland Fells, Galloway Hills and across to the Isle of Man.)

Moseying towards Northumberland (stop off at Carlisle Castle and The Lanes shopping centre on the way), friends, Romans and countrymen can walk as much of the Hadrian’s Wall Path as they can manage: it’s the north of England’s most visited tourist attraction and most of it runs along the Solway Firth on its way to Northumberland.

Happily for such a family-centred site, kiddish fun is all around Solway Holiday Village too: farm park Orton Grange, getting open-mouthed at the fish and other inhabitants at Lake District Coast Aquarium, or going on a hop around award-winning World of Beatrix Potter.
