  • Family-friendly site on the edge of the southern Lake District
  • Handy location a mile from the M6 and a 15-minute drive from Kendal
  • Well-maintained site with bar, picnic area, pool table and TV room
Lake, forest, and spectacular countryside… what’s not to like about this fantastic setting in the southern Lake District? Add in level pitches, a goodly collection of facilities and a friendly welcome on site and you should be all set for a fab family break at Waters Edge Caravan Park. Because of its handy location close to the M6, this is a nifty spot for getting out to all of the Lake District and Yorkshire, or even popping up to Scotland (it's only an hour's drive away). After day trips, head over to the clubhouse to ponder the fine selection of beers and spirits in the well-stocked bar – if the sun’s out, take them out to sip in the fresh air on the patio. There's a friendly vibe at this place, so just try not to get too competitive playing pool with new pals or watching sport together in the TV lounge. For food, you may like to create a picnic or fire up one of the barbecues over by reception (pick up bits at the shop on site or set out for a well-stocked store half a miles away. Not in the mood to cater? Make a break for meals at the pub a couple of minutes' walk away. Other amenities around the place include outdoor taps for your drinking water, a washing-up area, a laundry room and bathrooms with individual washing cubicles, showers and accessible toilets.

What customers say

This neat, quiet park gets props for its prime spot, lekker staff, and spotless ablutions. Tucked between streams, it’s tranquil with easy access to local sights. Guests love the level spots, vibey bar, and pretty scenery. Minor gripes: occasional road noise and some old-school facilities, but they're still clean. Highly recommended for its value and friendly feel.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Spacious pitches on this small, pretty, quiet site. Very clean and modern toilet and shower block, with the addition of wash basin cubicles too. Clean and airy washing up room. Helpful advice from reception on arrival.
Convenient site for either travelling up the M6 or for visiting many local places such as Kendal and Kirkby Lonsdale and we will definitely stop here again.
The site entrance is relatively easy to miss as the entrance is situated at the side of KT Coaches.

Disliked Nothing to dislike, except maybe slight humming from the nearby M6, but the noise wasn’t too invasive for us.
The caravan park entrance is relatively easy to overlook as it’s situated at the side of KT Coaches.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked This was probably the tidiest site we’ve ever stayed on. It has a mix of static homes and pitches for touring caravans as well as motorhomes. The facilities were spotlessly clean, excellent showers, toilets and washing up, including laundry facilities. As well as a very organised and tidy trash area. Its proximity to the M6 makes it perfect for a stop over on a long drive, or spending some time in the Lake District. There’s a handy hotel a few minutes walk away which has a very popular bar and restaurant with excellent quality food. There’s a fuel station near the entrance too, which was fairly priced and we found had a ‘snack bar’ inside offering bacon baps, toasties etc. The site itself has a lovely stream running alongside and a play area for kids. There’s a small shop and a bar on the site, but the bar wasn’t open when we visited, however I’m sure it would be lovely inside if the outside is anything to go by. The owner Tony clearly knows what he’s doing, this is a gem of a site. Small, but perfectly formed! We’ll definitely be back.

Disliked Nothing.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Good spacious /level pitches, good welcome at reception /check-in. A peaceful site and we had lovely sunny weather. Pub/restaurant recommended next door. Easy access on the bus to Kirby Lonsdale and Kendal but very limited service.

Disliked Bit of a trek to toilet and shower block from the first few pitches. Be cautious of the fast busy road on the walk to the local pub as no footpath.

Local attractions

Head into Kendal (15 minutes' drive) for golf days or to shelter indoors at the local leisure centre, which has a pool, squash and gym. You may also like to take wanders around the town's castle ruins and museums or pop in for a pint (or a tour) at Hawkshead Brewery. Hop on horseback and make your own great western adventures in the surrounding woodland and countryside with the nearest horse riding centre (10 minutes' drive). If water-based antics are more your thing, it's a 15-minute drive to a lake for waterskiing, windsurfing, sailing and fishing. Or keep an eye out to see what's on at the Westmorland County Showground (10 minutes' walk), which often stages smashing family-friendly events. If you fancy exploring the wider region, it's an easy drive to Morecambe Bay beach (20 minutes), and the Yorkshire Dales (25 minutes). For kid-pleasing days out, aim to lose them for a while at Lakeland Maze Farm Park or head off to meet the animals at Lakeland Wildlife Oasis; both are around 10 minutes away by car.
