  • Peaceful back to basics Cumbria site with lovely Lake District views
  • A 10-minute drive to either Kendal or Windermere
  • Tree-lined grass pitch area a mile from the local village pub
Time for a slice of the simple life? Grab a peaceful Lake District pitch at Church Lane Campsite and immerse yourselves in proper scenic countryside with few distractions. This back to basics site has life’s essentials in place – in the form of drinking water, toilets and showers – but hasn’t gone overboard with other facilities, so you’ll simply be left to set up your space and soak up the gorgeous views of the surrounding countryside. Pitches here are on grass with trees around the field to provide a bit of shelter and shade – and the views are pretty much green as far as you can see… This setting gives the place a remote atmosphere that’s well suited to adventurous travellers, nature lovers and serenity-seeking couples or families. That said, it’s not actually all that remote – handily, you’ll be able to drive to Kendal in about 10 minutes for cultural attractions, shops and places to eat, and popular Windermere is about the same distance in the other direction. Closer still are a smart rural restaurant and the little village of Crook, a mile away and the home of the local pub – both excellent options for a good feed.

What customers say

Church Lane Campsite: quiet, rustic stay near Kendal/Windermere. Loved by visitors for friendly owners, clean ablutions (hot showers!), and ample pitches. Basic facilities and some uneven ground noted, but excellent value, peace, and a welcoming vibe. Great for exploring the Lakes.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked The area was spacious and clean, easy to find but tucked away so there was no passing traffic, well hidden in the fields
There was a beautiful wash area set up, showers with excellent pressure and temperature! There was even soap which was lucky as we didn’t have any, we didn’t think we’d find a shower while travelling!
Loos were clean and stocked!
Sink area with drinking water and for washing up! I didn’t want to leave!

We were even met upon arrival by the owners who just checked in making sure we were comfortable and knew where things were (normally I’m anxious around strangers but they were so friendly it was very pleasant)

I will definitely stay here again when I visit the area over anywhere else!
We even had signal!

Liked I recently had the pleasure of staying at Church Lane Campsite and was thoroughly impressed by the experience. From the moment i arrived, the staff were exceptionally welcoming and attentive, creating a warm and friendly atmosphere that made me feel right at home.

The facilities were outstanding—clean, modern, and clearly well-maintained. Everything from the shower blocks to the communal areas was thoughtfully designed to ensure comfort and convenience for guests. It’s evident that great care is taken to uphold high standards across the site.

Whether you're a seasoned camper or new to outdoor stays, Church Lane offers a perfect blend of tranquility and top-tier amenities. I would highly recommend this campsite to anyone looking for a relaxing and enjoyable getaway. We’ll definitely be returning

Liked This place is so beautiful, peaceful and quiet ( apart of sheep’s music 😂) so if anyone is looking for spending some time in really basic nature that’s the campsite for you. There is so much space to not be crowded, toilets and showers available, what do you need more? Thank you for giving us also some good tips about the hiking-routes Jack 👍

Liked Quiet and peaceful place, perfect for sleeping and relaxing. Place was huge with a lot of spaces for everyone. Clean toilets and showers. Drinking water available from the tap. Sloping area but you gotta find a flat surface for a more comfortable sleep.

Disliked Bbq not allowed.

From the manager: Thank you for giving us such a lovely review! We're really glad you enjoyed your stay, and it was great to host you.

Just a quick note on the BBQs, we don't mind them as long as they're kept off the grass :)

Plenty of space, nice views. Facilities were basic but maintained.

Local attractions

If you’re here to explore the attractions of the Lake District National Park, there’s surely no better place to start than Windermere (10 minutes’ drive) – it is, after all, England’s largest natural lake. Boat trips and various watersports (including kayaking and paddleboarding) can help you get out on the water, or you can stick to the lakeshore for a walk, a visit to the World of Beatrix Potter Attraction (10 minutes) or adventure activities at Brockhole on Windermere (15 minutes). Other nearby natural attractions include Kentmere (20 minutes) and Rydal Cave (25 minutes); but if you hit a rainy day, maybe you’d prefer to head to Kendal (10 minutes) for its various museums and arts venues, or to Levens Hall (15 minutes), a little way south of the town. Something to keep the kids happy? Try the animal experiences at Lakeland Farm Visitor Centre (15 minutes) or Predator Experience – Wolf Experience UK (25 minutes). Or, if you’d like a bit of peace for a while, lose them in the labyrinth at Lakeland Maze Farm Park (15 minutes).
