What customers say

A neat, tranquil, clean camp with big, flat gravel spots, often with power. Behind The Wellington Inn, visitors rave about the grub, staff, and vibes. No ablutions on-site (pub loos open hours), but highly recommended for short stays. Many keen to return.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked Good site, good pub, great food

Disliked Shame that there are no accessable toilets after closing time. Not everyone in a campervan has room for a chemical toilet

From the manager: Thank you for your feedback!!!
We don't advertise that we have toilets or showers on site.
We do state that you are welcome to use the toilets in the pub while the pub is open.
And we do mention that the pub is closed on a Monday and a Tuesday.
We are very up front in our pitch up ad!
All information is there so that the customer can make an educated choice in whether our site, location and facilities are suitable for you before you book.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked Lovely location

Disliked Misleading ad by proprietor.....pub didn't allow dogs and they advertised that we could use the facilities until close at 11pm, however they shut at 10pm !!

From the manager: Sorry you didn't enjoy your stay!

With the help of pitchup we believe we have been upfront and honest in our pitchup add about what our site offers i.e. facilities, Location etc so you can read and decide if our site meets all your needs before you book!!!
Nowhere do we advertise that dogs are allowed in the pub!!!
We do state that dogs are more than welcome on site and in our beer garden!
Its not that we don't like dogs but it has caused us problems in the past with us being a small food led country pub so we had to make this decision due to to many dogs.

And we definitely do not state times that toilets in the pub are avalable.
We state that there are no toilets or showers avalable on site but you are welcome to use the toilets in the pub while we are open!
But the pub is closed on a Monday and Tuesday.

If asked directly we would answer that on the quieter nights it could be 10pm but on busy nights it can be 1am.

I don't believe that anywhere in our add we have been misleading.

To anyone reading this please read the bio on any site you visit before you click book so you have an enjoyable stay wherever you go!

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked Lovely peaceful site. Lots of wild birds. Very well kept.

Disliked The pub quite run down. Lots of cobwebs. Could do with a good clean and updating. Food looked average but quite overpriced.

From the manager: Sorry you didn't enjoy your stay with us!

We have been at the Wellington Inn and Caravan Park for 14 years now and proud to be the owners of such an old and historic pub!
Dating back to the 1600s we don't feel as though the Welly would suit an "update"
Our old and traditional village pub is the heart of our community with a strong following with people traveling a long way to enjoy our traditional pub food , Ales and entertainment nights.
We pride ourselves on our friendly approach to everyone new to the Welly or a returning regular to the pub or site.
We are a very busy little pub and that is down to brilliant staff, everything in the above and the fact we keep our prices realistic on our food and drinks!!!
You only need to read our reviews wherever you can find them.

As for the cobwebs!!
We are an old village pub! It happens! You can dust them away one day and they come back.

In summary we will never be a weatherspoons or a cocktail bar!
We will stay true to what we are!!!
A true traditional family owned village pub!
Where we like to get to know you and whenever you walk back in you feel like you only walked out yesterday.

Local attractions

Wildlife isn't hard to come by in this part of northern Cumbria, as you're a mere five-minute drive from Watchtree Nature Reserve, a former RAF airbase that's been rewilded and has a number of tarmac car-free cycle trails to explore (with bike and tricycle hire also available). For more time outdoors, head five minutes down the road to the Cumberland Bird of Prey Centre and learn about how to handle a hawk like a pro. Having Carlisle so close by is also a major plus – drop the kids off at Fusion Trampoline Park (10 minutes) for a big old bounce, push your limits and scale the different courses at Eden Rock (15 minutes), a local indoor climbing centre, or learn more about the area at Tullie House Museum And Art Gallery (10 minutes). Drive slightly further afield and you'll quickly come to more top-quality days out. The nearest waterside spot in the Lake District National Park is Bassenthwaite, half an hour from base, a relatively quiet lake that's home to rare bird species including osprey.
