Local attractions

Culley’s Meadow sits near two well-known cycling routes – the Sandstone Way and the Pennine Cycleway – making this site a haven for bikers. Walkers are equally spoiled, with trails ranging from the gentle paths of Wooler Common (10 minutes’ drive) to the more challenging ascent of The Cheviot (25 minutes), Northumberland’s highest peak. A scenic drive takes you to the expansive sandy beaches of Bamburgh (half an hour) and Holy Island (35 minutes), where you can walk the dogs, paddle in the waves and swim on warmer days. If you fancy a bit of history with your beach stroll, take a guided tour of the landmark Bamburgh Castle, explore Lindisfarne Priory (35 minutes) or visit the Poison Garden at Alnwick Castle (half an hour). You can spot the UK’s only wild cattle at Chillingham Castle (15 minutes), and make friends with the Shires at Hay Farm Heavy Horse Centre (also 15 minutes). For a healthy walk involving a ball, Wooler Golf Club (10 minutes) has a well-kept nine-hole course with views of the Cheviot Hills.
