  • Small adults-only motorhome site in Kielder Forest Park
  • Kielder Castle under a mile away; observatory 10 minutes' drive
  • Serviced hardstanding pitches in the UK's largest dark sky park
There's some really excellent hiking, mountain biking and wildlife watching to be done in the Northumberland National Park – but if there's one thing this park is really known for, it's surely the fantastic stargazing. A whopping 572 square miles here have been given Gold Tier status for their incredible dark skies, making this the largest International Dark Sky Park in the UK (and the second largest in Europe). If you're travelling in a motorhome, you’ll be able to take full advantage of these fabulous surroundings at Clear Sky Lodge Park, an adults-only touring site on the edge of Ravenshill Forest and with views over the North Tyne Valley. That setting means the views here are gorgeous by day – but they're potentially even better by night, when the starry displays start up. If you're keen to learn more about what you’re seeing, head to nearby Kielder Observatory (10 minutes' drive) for one of their regular events. And this great location also means you'll have plenty to do by day as well, exploring the trails of surrounding Kielder Forest Park, visiting Kielder Castle and heading down to Kielder Water. You might also like to throw in a day trip to the Roman attractions around Hexham (50 minutes' drive away). Preserving the dark-sky status of this park means that facilities here have necessarily been kept to a minimum, but guests have access to toilets, showers and a chemical disposal point. Pitches all have water and electric connections, and they’re on hardstanding that should be accessible in all weathers.

What customers say

This small, quiet, adult-only site offers peace and privacy in a stunning, remote spot. Reviews rave about the exceptionally clean, modern ablutions – the best ever! Spacious pitches with water/electric have great views. Ideal for walks, cycling, stargazing. WiFi can be spotty, occasional midges.

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Small site which we love, with generous good quality hard standing pitches, amazing view. EHU and water at the pitch.
The shower block was exceptional - clean throughout, spatious shower rooms with push on push off water (rather than the tedious timed water taps!). Built from locally sourced timber which was good to know, it was obvious great thought and care had gone into building it.
Little telephone or data signal but clear warnings about this when booking so no issues and we didn’t come to the site to be on grid, but there was just enough signal so as assured could be contactable in an emergency.
Ate at the local pub, 15 mins walk, food was standard pub fare but really tasty. Great walking out of the site. Will be booking again.

Disliked Just once when couldn’t get hot water to wash up but shower was warm
/hot on another occasion and we just boiled the kettle for the washing up, so no problem.

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Fantastic site, stunning views and we liked having the option to choose your pitch on arrival. Shower block is great- spotlessly clean log cabin style, all locally sourced material from the forest. Owner super friendly and helpful.

Disliked Nothing….apart from the great British weather! Sadly no stars visible due to heavy cloud! Nothing to dislike about the site, we loved it!

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Everything. Lovely small site with well spaced out pitches. Shower block is fabulous, underfloor heating is a game changer. Showers r so spacious and have plenty of room. Lots of hooks, stool and a table to put things on. Probably the best thought out shower we have encountered.
We arrived 1st November. The local shop closed end of October until April 2026. Make sure u have provisions if u r going at this time of year. Nearest shop approx 7 miles away. Loads of walks and attractions that u can access from the site without having to drive. Telephone box with loads of info. WiFi is available at the phone box but doesn’t extend to pitches. We had good 4g signal tho. Good tv signal. This site is a little gem. Thank u

Disliked Absolutely nothing.
the biblical rain! Of course, nothing to do with the site, Mother Nature at her best!

Liked Great washing (indoor sink), shower and toilet facilities
Beautiful location stunning views and scenery.
WiFi is great at the top pitches. WiFi password and walking trails can be found in the red telephone box
Very Peaceful
Lots of Wildlife
We were very lucky to see the beautiful night sky! Be aware it’s very dark.

Disliked This isn’t a negative for the site but be aware that the tavern at the bottom of the hill does not serve hot food in autumn/winter. The closest place to find hot food would be a drive away.

Local attractions

Given how close it is, your first visit should be to Kielder Castle, just under a mile away. It's got a variety of exhibits about the area’s history and wildlife, a lovely café and a bird hide where you can look out for the resident ospreys. Bikes can be hired here, or you can head out on a scenic drive along the toll road. There are plenty of options nearby for walks, of course – and one of the best is the Lakeside Way, an accessible multi-user trail that runs all the way along the 26-mile shoreline of Kielder Water (10 minutes’ drive). Look out for native red squirrels as you go – Kielder is home to about half of the country's population – or head to the Kielder Water Bird of Prey Centre (15 minutes) to see other local wildlife. If you're into mountain biking, you may like to cross the Scottish border to 7 Stanes - Newcastleton (25 minutes); if it’s history that’s more your thing, try heading to Hadrian's Wall to explore places like the Temple of Mithras (45 minutes) and Housesteads Roman Fort (50 minutes).
