General

  • Scenic and well-equipped park in the Yorkshire Dales
  • Spa, heated pool, sauna, steam room and Jacuzzi
  • Gym, beauty salon, coffee lounge and restaurant serving homemade food

You'll want a long long stay at Long Ashes Park. For this spectacular and well-equipped site is in the Yorkshire Dales National Park for weeks' worth of hiking and cycling... and comes with a first-rate range of leisure and foodie facilities for leisurely pursuits and fuelling up.

In green countryside a couple of miles from the North Yorkshire village of Grassington, Long Ashes is fably placed for guests to have as active or as laidback a hol as they want. You could scramble up one – or all – of the Three Peaks, tramp the Dales Way alongside the River Wharf, stride along to local villages like Thorpe and Hebden, or take to two wheels along the 130-mile Yorkshire Dales Cycleway... just for starters...

And if you're looking for a leisurely hol? Stay right on site, to buy spa day, facial and body therapy sessions for the Long Ashes Spa, or to linger for hours in the leisure club's heated pool, sauna, steam room and Jacuzzi. There's a gym at the leisure club if you insist on staying in shape, and a hairdressing salon to ensure your locks are in peak condition at all times.

No need to leave the site for eats either, as the Gamekeeper's Inn is to hand to dish up homemade food using locally-sourced produce, as well as cask and guest ales, Sunday carvery and afternoon tea. Ditherers are well catered for with the inn's regular food evenings like steak nights and Asian nights; if you'd prefer a light bite, the coffee lounge serves sandwiches, baked potatoes and other snacks alongside tea, coffee, soft drinks and wine.

Amenities are made up of family bathrooms, each with a large shower, a toilet and a wash basin.

Really nice holiday park. Clean and modern shower and toilet facilities with a lovely pub and spa on site. We had a meal and afternoon tea at the pub and loved them both. Even though it rained we had a great weekend at the park.

    Disliked:

It wasn’t an issue for us as it was quiet camping this weekend but if there were to be lots of tents it’s a bit of a free for all. Could get very cluttered and no sent pitches. Grass really needs cutting too I’ve see that a few people had said that before we went.

Stayed here for 3 nights and loved it, the weather was brilliant which helped!
The toilet block, consisted of 4 shower/toilet/sink and 1 just a toilet/sink. These were lovely and clean, ran out of loo roll on occasion but the park was full so not surprising. 2 kitchen sinks with loads of free hot water to wash up in.
The Gamekeeper in was reasonably priced for the drinks but cannot comment on food as we BBQ'd each night. Free wifi in the pub.

    Disliked:

A couple of improvements for me to rate it 5 stars - the grass could do with a cut as was very wet with the morning dew and the use of a freezer to freeze ice packs would make life for the camper so much better.

Just a minor thing... The fact that the showers were integrated with the toilets, meant that if you needed to use just the toilet you had to wait for quite some time. Probably would be better if there were some separate toilets also.

Limited amount of pitches so lots of space and not to much noise. On site reception really helpful. Game keepers arms great value for money. Close proximity to lots of great walking and sightseeing.

    Disliked:

Grass on site very long causing wet feet at times. Even a cut walkway to the shower blocks would have removed this as an issue.

Local attractions

Travel two miles to Grassington for a day around its tearooms and shops, then drop into the Grassington National Park Centre for info on what to see and do nearby. Walks leave right from the centre or from the village, including a waterside wander by the River Wharfe to Linton Falls, hikes over Grassington Moors, or a potter around the Grassington Riverside & Woods trail (pick up a leaflet for this at the centre).

Grassington is also on the Dales Way, the 80-mile route from Ilkley in West Yorkshire to Bowness-on-Windermere in Cumbria: hardy types can tackle the 13 miles from Grassington to Yockenthwaite, or hike in the other direction on the 16-mile stretch to Ilkley. For cycling, take the Yorkshire Dales Cycleway from Grassington to Ilkley and from there to Bolton Abbey.

If you'd much (much) prefer sightseeing and shopping days instead, the market town of Skipton is within 15 minutes' drive and Harrogate is within 50.

Must see

  • East Riddlesden Hall (NT) (24.7 kilometres)
