  • Set over 55 acres of countryside, with on-site coarse fishing
  • Two country pubs serving food within a mile
  • Shop selling fishing tackle and bait
Are you looking to land a stay near water in North Yorkshire? And possibly land some slippery specimens too? Have a stay at Stonebridge Fishing Lakes near Northallerton, a site with fishing as well as many a fishy thing to buy in the site shop. Not enthused by angling? Potter off around Stonebridge and its surrounds instead: the site is set over 55 acres of site countryside and has easy access to the A1 and the A19 from its setting in the village of Little Fencote. The North York Moors National Park is a few miles past nearby Northallerton. Stonebridge has a toilet and shower block with separate ladies' and gents' facilities, a disabled toilet and a wetroom. The site shop sells bait, tackle and fresh maggots for that casting off, as well as charcoal and firelighters. Two country pubs are within a mile or so: the Black Horse to the north and the Coore Arms just over a mile to the south. Both serve homemade traditional pub food. Please note that Stonebridge is a working fishery/farm and has equipment and machinery in designated areas. Prices are designed to reflect this. No extra charges are made for awnings or cars. Children are welcome on site, but please note that Stonebridge has no play areas and does not allow ball games.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Relaxed site, good sized pitches, toilet block clean and spacious. Pleasant rural location a short distance from village with good pub. We didn’t try the popular fishing lakes.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Quiet

Disliked: We stayed here as a last minute stopover travelling back from Northumberland and only really as we needed a shower. On arrival all we saw was just rubbish, old cars, old caravans, old coaches. Everywhere was just rubbish over grown. The showers was luck warm never much heat smelt terrible, mouldy, damp. On the section we was on there was old battered caravans, awnings destroyed rubbish everywhere.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: A good pitch with a nice hedge partition near the wash block which was spacious with plenty of hot water.

Disliked: It was very dark onsite so a torch was essential.

Brown trout bell tent (pet friendly, waterside)

Liked: Friendly people and a great setup. We booked last minute as a way to just get away for the night. The kids loved it and we liked that there was a little sheltered area with outdoor seating and a BBQ, fire pit and a kettle. The kids are already saying we have to go back and stay in a different tent next time. They want to stay in them all.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked: Friendly little site in a good location. Pleasant welcome by staff who really seemed pleased to help, even stopped to speak when we met them in the local village. Quiet on arrival so we were offered a choice of pitches. Facilities were all very close and toilets etc were clean. Excellent value for money.

Disliked: The site is a little tired but with a bit of TLC and investment this could really be a fantastic little site. To be fair though if they did that they would need to increase the price and would be fully justified in doing so.

Sgt Pepper Bell Tent bell tent (waterside)

Liked: Friendly owner and nice setup

Disliked: They should maybe sell some bait at the honor shop and maybe some info on what fish are in the lakes and suggested rigs and baits are effective there.

Route directions

Please note that satnav will direct you to Little Fencote village rather than to Stonebridge Fishing Lakes. To reach the site, do not use Low Street or Fence Dike Lane; instead follow the directions below. From the A1 leave at Junction 51. If you're travelling south on the A1, turn left at the roundabout (or right if you're travelling north), then cross two more roundabouts. At the next roundabout, take the first exit. Continue on this road for about 3/4 mile, then take a left turn to Scruton. Follow the road into the village, past the Coore Arms, and continue along this road all the way until you reach the site.

Local attractions

Nearby Northallerton and Richmond are both traditional market towns, with old centres alongside more modern buildings, cafés, shops, pubs and restaurants. Northallerton's market days are on Wednesdays and Saturdays. From Northallerton, it's a few miles along the A694 to reach hikes, strolls, bike rides and other activities of the North York Moors National Park. The village of Osmotherley to the west of the national park is a good starting point for walkers as the 110-mile Cleveland Way runs through it; for something even more energetic, try the 40-mile Lyke Wake Walk, starting outside Osmotherley and cutting across the highest of the moors. For a spot of history, trundle along the Wensleydale Railway's 22 miles of track between Northallerton West and Redmire, where six steam trains run every weekend.
