Great views from the site

  • Quiet site in the countryside with views of the Cleveland Hills
  • Half an hour's drive from the coast or the centre of Middlesbrough
  • Well-placed for walks in the North York Moors National Park
This is a fine spot for folk looking to get out on walks and bike rides, or in search of other outdoor activities, that’s for sure. In the countryside and only half an hour's drive from the coast, Southview Farm makes for a rather splendid base… The small and privately-owned North Yorkshire site is also three miles south of the market town of Stokesley and about half an hour's drive from the centre of Middlesbrough. The views from the site give something of a hint that the Cleveland Hills are nearby, with the huge expanse of the North York Moors National Park another option on the activities front. If you fancy a few lungfuls of sea air on one of your strolls, set forth for Saltburn-by-the-Sea – it’s about half an hour’s drive from here. Any dogs out there hopefully wagging tails at the idea of all this should be pleased to hear that they’re welcome to come along for a stay at Southview Farm. It’s also a place that allows outdoor cooks to have a go with their barbecues, although there are several places to eat, drink or pick up takeaways in Stokesley if you’d rather someone else did the honours.

Quiet, well-kept site, spacious pitches, great views. Staff (especially Dave) are super friendly. Ablutions are spotless & warm. Ideal for walks. Some wanted more loos/showers when busy & clearer waste rules.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked Lovely, quiet, friendly and well maintained site. This is the second time we have been here. Beautiful views of the Cleveland Hills, spacious pitches, warm and friendly welcome (from Dave) and really nice clean facilities. Great base for walking in the hills and exploring the surrounding countryside. Stokesley just down the road if you need anything.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked Spacious pitches, in fact I had the lower field to myself with great views.
Lovely welcome and explanation of the site from Dave. Fantastic hot showers and the facilities were all clean and well thought out. Even got to meet some local hedgehogs on the way back after evening ablutions, mine not theirs! - thank you!

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked Very well placed site for days out in our campervan, as it was easy to drive in and out. Not far from a main road but still quiet with lovely views. Hook up pricing good value, showers were hot and good washing up facilities. We were made very welcome and given various options about where to park.

Disliked Quite exposed on windy days....no problem in a van but maybe challenging if you were in a tent.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked Clean showers and toilets, beautiful views, nice walking areas, peaceful site. I think some of the reviews are a bit harsh saying nothing nearby there's plenty of pubs and hikes etc nearby. If you want a party / rowdy site where kids run riot this is probably not to your liking but we love waking up with nice views with a cuppa in peace and find it ideal. You're allowed music etc just not until daft hours. Being respectful and mindful of others.

Disliked Nothing

Liked Great little campsite warden very friendly and informative he worked very hard constantly checking facilities were kept clean and tidy and everyone was happy . Was a slight altercation Friday night when a family of unruly campers arrived allowing dogs and children to run riot on site but this was dealt with swiftly and professionally by Dave and they were asked to leave. would recommend to everyone will return for sure.

From the manager: I am very sorry you feel this way. You came with more children and dogs than you paid for however the main issue was the children and the dogs running around other peoples caravans causing a disturbance. I had numerous complaints and had no option but to ask you to leave. You were given a full refund.

Local attractions

It’s likely you’ll be spending a fair bit of time out and about in the wilderness (or countryside, seaside, whatever else you’d like to call it) and with that comes some gorgeous wildlife and walking trails. Leven Valley Alpacas (20 minutes' drive) combines both – treks through an 11-acre farm with alpacas for company – while Butterfly World (25 minutes) is a rainforest with butterflies of all shapes, sizes and colours. As for those lengthier hikes, the trails at Roseberry Topping (15 minutes) will take you to the woods and a hilltop with views over Cleveland. Guisborough Forest (20 minutes) is just as adventurous, with a woodland cycling trail or hiking trails. There’s Saltburn-by-the-Sea (half an hour) when you’re craving a stroll along the seafront too… or a trip up the cliff tramway and a surfing session on the sandy beach. If you like your strolls a little more historic, you’ll have a monk’s cell and ruins of a medieval monastery to explore around the National Trust’s Mount Grace Priory (15 minutes) and at the National Trust’s Ormesbury Hall (20 minutes), an 18th-century mansion. Cleveland Ironstone Museum (35 minutes) is another historic place, with mine remains, 3D models and collections from the 19th century.
