General

  • Family-run site at the former railway station in Masham
  • Ripon and Fountain Abbey less than half an hour's drive away
  • A 20-minute walk from the town centre, pubs and breweries

Old Station Caravan Park is a quiet, well-established rural site that’s been set up at the location of the former railway station in the lovely little town of Masham, on the eastern side of the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

The friendly family-run park is about a mile from the centre of town, so you can walk down there in about 20 minutes for shops, a small supermarket, takeaways and some fine pubs. Masham’s also home to not one but two splendid breweries – Theakston’s and Black Sheep – so it’s worth planning some time to tour both (and carry out extensive sample work on their wares of course).

If you’re not up for the walk, or want to get out to more far-flung destinations, there’s a bus stop just outside the gates that can whisk you off to various places without the need to drive. Some of the things you may like to visit nearby include the Dales peaks of Ingleborough and Whernside (both of which can be spotted on the horizon from the site), the famed cheese producers of Wensleydale and heritage spots like Fountains Abbey. York, Harrogate and Ripon are all easily doable for day trips too.

The team on site pride themselves on their attention to detail, and are on hand to do their best to make stays as comfy as possible for all guests. There’s a small shop on site, plus facilities for laundry and washing-up and a smart heated amenities block that’s got interesting decorative features and is kept spotlessly clean.

There was a warm and friendly welcome on arrival which was lovely. The field is quite small and the pitches were flat and spacious. It is a basic site without the things one might expect in a big family holiday venue. The toilets and showers were open, it had all the amenities we should need and they were spotless. They were very on point with the Covid 19 restrictions and we felt very safe. It is a really interesting site on the site of the old railway station. The campsite is about 15-20 minute walk from the town. We really enjoyed our short stay there. Sharing the site is a small café housed in the old goods shed. It is not actually part of the campsite but it is a very handy neighbour. We only had breakfast there, which was delicious, but the rest of the menu looked pretty good too. I understand it is quite a popular eating place for other locals as well as campers. Once again it was set up well within the Covid restrictions and felt very safe.

    Disliked:

This is not a dislike about the site as it is not anything to do with the site itself. The walk into town is on pretty narrow and poorly lit pavement. This was not an issue for us but it could be something to consider for anyone with limited mobility.

such a shame the brewery tours aren't running this year!
This time the Van wouldn't charge on the hook up. There appears to be nothing wrong, but maybe the voltage was low. she charged fine at home.

A very quiet, pleasant and friendly site.
We had a wonderful stay right from the off, we were welcomed in a safe Covid 19 prepared site with hand gel and organised shower/toilet facilities.
The motorhome fitted well with everything needed for our stay.
Close to walk to Masham and a cafe on site.
Lovely sound of cows in the next field and friendly fellow campers.
    Enjoyed every moment.

The site was well laod out and allthough we were camping the bbq huts there also looked very good. Showers were hot and clean. Plenty of rules in place here but these are for the benefit of eveyone, the owners were very nice.
