General

  • Glamping site on an estate in the scenic Suffolk Coast and Heaths area
  • A 15-minute drive from both the sea and Sutton Hoo archaeological site
  • Café with views over ancient woodland and lakes, plus a small shop

Coast or country? Deciding between the two for a hol is quite often a quandary, but with Wantisden Park both types of lovely landscapes are within easy reach.

Set on a private estate, this East Anglian glamping site in the lush Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is around a 15-minute drive from the sea. It overlooks ancient oak woodland and lakes home to countless plants and wildlife – including wild deer – so it’s a top base for holidaymakers keen on roaming the countryside.

As well as wandering around the estate, guests at this site might like to partake in walks through the surrounding forestry. Plenty of pretty villages are also nearby: Orford, famed for its smokehouse, Norman castle and quay overlooking the banks of the River Ore (with boat rides available), is 15 minutes’ drive away, and the seaside towns of Aldeburgh and Thorpeness, with their sweeping sandy beaches 25 and 30 minutes respectively.

If you’re not grabbing a takeaway from one of the fish ‘n’ chip shops at these spots, retreat to the site for lunch at the Oaks Café or pick up essentials at the small shop to whip up a quick meal. This park’s amenities also include a refurbished shower block with family changing rooms, free wifi and laundry facilities.

Wow, best campsite in suffolk! Frendly and helpful staff. Immaculate ,spacious toilet/shower block. Fantastic cafe for breakfast, utility room, with microwave and washing machine and fridges, plugs and hairdryer, all included. The views are stunning, ponds, fields of cows and deer amongst ancient oak trees. Will definitely be back and would reccomend 100%.

Where do I begin. Wantisden Park is one of the most beautiful campsites I have ever stayed at. The camp is spotless, the showers and toilets, even the rubbish areas, are clean. The cafe serves fantastic breakfast baps and hot drinks. Surrounding walks were wonderful. It is a dog friendly site and our two dogs loved it. There is plenty of space between pitches and very quiet. The owners were lovely and always available if needed. Really looking forward to a return visit.

    Disliked:

Due to covid the on site shop was not fully stocked. However, small essentials were available to buy.

Location instructions were spot on so the campsite was easy to find. The actual site is super clean and tidy and very well laid out. It's spacious and scenic.
    Pitches are all fairly level.
The toilets and showers are well kept and modern.
The cafe on site is not only handy for lazy mornings but also great value and delicious.
The owners/staff are very friendly and helpful.
Can't think of any downsides actually. Would definitely recommend and will probably be coming back!

I left a full review last week - and returned this week for more of the same. Can't get enough of the place and the surroundings area. There is just so much variety in this part of coastal Suffolk.
Seems we're not alone in this as our new 'neighbour' there had been just two weeks before and a group arriving as we were leaving waited for 'our pitch' (they are unmarked - you just camp with sensitivity to others on the site) said they always pitched in 'our' corner to get the sunshine.
If return custom is any measure of success then this place has it in bucketloads.

    Disliked:

Just the size of the freezer facility. I decent separate freezer would make this place 11/10.

Local attractions

One of the most sought-after sightseeing options in the Suffolk Coast and Heaths area is the Sutton Hoo archaeological site near Woodbridge (15 minutes’ drive) with its two 6th- and early 7th-century cemeteries. One was home to a ship burial where a multitude of Anglo-Saxon artefacts were uncovered, many of which were sent over to the British Museum in London due to their top cultural significance.

Learn about the discovery, then potter over to the riverside setting of Snape Maltings (15 minutes) for more history in a village that's home to industrial buildings dating back to the Victorian era as well as modern galleries and boutiques. Woodbridge, a market town 20 minutes away, is also an excellent choice if you fancy shopping for souvenirs.

For town times by the sea, Aldeburgh (25 minutes) is a pretty place set by a shingle beach on the North Sea; set off on a wander here towards the Martello Tower, built as a defence against Napoleon, then head over to the hamlet of Thorpeness (30 minutes from the site and a couple of miles from Aldeburgh) for a bit of boating on the mere.
