  • Spacious 12-acre family campsite in rural Norfolk
  • Two miles from Mundesley beach; North Walsham 10 minutes' drive
  • Kids' play area, indoor seating and pop-up bar
Rock up for a roomy rural site that’s two miles from the north Norfolk coast… MADRA is a green and grassy spot that’s far from busy roads and big cities – in all, you'll have 12 acres to pitch up and explore in, plus lots of adjacent country footpaths and bike rides a short distance from base to get to hiking or pedalling as you please. The vibe here is laidback, relaxed and family-friendly – the kids have a playground where they can run around and blow off some steam, while a clubhouse and pop-up bar is on hand for drinks or for those of you who are looking for somewhere to chill away from the elements. Barbecues are welcome too, and there are plenty of picnic tables around the place to get set up, so it shouldn't be a bother to find somewhere to eat alfresco as a group. So, where is this spot? Well, MADRA is in a small village called Knapton, and from there, it’s easy to catch regular bus services to local seaside towns like Mundesley (two miles) and Cromer (nine miles). You're also very close to the pretty market town of North Walsham (roughly 10 minutes' drive), where’s a train station, pubs, restaurants, fish and chip shops, a public swimming pool and a bowling alley.

Local attractions

You might not be able to get back to the real Victorian seaside, but Mundesley (five minutes’ drive) was popular with the public back then, and it’s easy to tell why when you visit its paddle-worthy beach and pretty village. Cromer (20 minutes) is another of those sweet seaside spots – get your hands on the crab specialities, catch a show in the pavilion on the pier or go for a snorkel from the shore. Those of you who want to source some more tasty eats will surely find some in the market town of North Walsham (10 minutes) or Norwich city centre (35 minutes). But to embark on more water-based activities, there are the Norfolk Broads inland, and Wroxham (25 minutes) will be your closest spot to hire out a boat and make some headway. Grab a bicycle instead over on the Blickling Estate (25 minutes). It’s an easy pedal past the hall and the parkland’s lake, grandstand and other little features. Holkham Hall (an hour) has both bicycle and boat hire too, as well as high ropes for those of you who want to take on some new heights, literally. For more of the treetops, playtime at BeWILDerwood Norfolk (25 minutes) will be in a treehouse-themed playground.

Electric grass pitch

Liked The open ness of the field was lovely, leaving families space to play games etc. Level pitches.
The site is run by some lovely people, nothing was too much trouble, and they checked in on me to make sure I was okay. Clubhouse served food, hot & cold beverages all very reasonably priced.

Disliked Toilets/shower basic, not the cleanest. The sink for washing up only had cold running water, although not a huge issue, as I boiled the kettle before hand.

From the manager: Thank you for review I wish you would read other reviews will explain cold-water
