  • Luxury glamping less than five minutes’ walk from Cromer Beach
  • Blickling Hall 20 minutes’ drive; Blakeney Nature Reserve 35 minutes
  • Hot tub and pizza oven; access to the site’s indoor pool and play area
Thinking of glamping on the North Norfolk coast? You might want to check out The Grove Shepherd’s Lodge, part of a family-run business with a history of hospitality starting in 1936. Back then, only a few fortunate friends could stay here. Happily, these days they welcome all visitors to this site five minutes’ drive from Cromer town centre. Sleeping up to five people, the luxury shepherd’s hut sits in its own private area next to Warren Woods. It’s less than five minutes’ walk from Cromer Beach, where you can admire a mural by Banksy, have a swim or take a stroll up to the pier. If the hut’s fully-equipped kitchen (with gas hobs, microwave and fridge) is not enough to indulge your MasterChef fantasies, a decked and sheltered alfresco dining area comes with a wood-fired pizza oven and a barbecue grill. While the designated cook stretches the dough and makes pizza pies for the whole family, the rest of the party can have a game of table tennis, soak in the hot tub or take advantage of the other facilities on the grounds, including a children’s playground, an indoor pool and a massage hut. Where will you have your meal: at the picnic table or in the enclosed area around the globe-shaped firepit? If the seaside chills start to bite, you can head inside the hut, where there’s a comfortable dining area, plus a woodburning stove and underfloor heating. (By the way, if preparing your own food sounds like too much effort, there are two restaurants on site, including one serving homemade pizzas and tapas.)

Norfolk Mardler yurt (four person)

Liked On arrival site looked just as described. Our Yurt was perfect and well equipped with all we needed. Clean and tidy. Shower block and toilet areas ideal, basic but clean. Play park for the boys was amazing fun. The swimming pool was an added bonus and booking sessions in advance was great, knowing your time slot made life a little easier, pool well maintained and 45 minutes a session was more than enough. The grounds around the yurts was well kept and the central fire pit was great fun in the evenings for roasting marshmallows with new friends. Sundown offered tapas and pizza and was a nice chilled friendly atmosphere and the food was lovely and not over priced. Reception were always happy to help and supported when needed. Perfect for young children and teens, child friendly and a safe environment. Location was spot on, walking distance to beach and into Cromer town, buses available for further journeys or short car ride. Good parking in and around Cromer for when visiting the beach. WiFi available and worked well throughout stay.

Local attractions

Focusing on creatures from South America, Amazona Zoo (five minutes’ drive) is home to jaguars, capybaras and dozens of colourful birds, including macaws and toucans. When you’re done looking at tropical beasties, there’s also a playground with jumping pillows and an indoor soft-play area for the under-12s. You can admire artworks and tapestries as you wander through the grand rooms at Blickling Hall (20 minutes), a National Trust-run Jacobean mansion. Alternatively, you can stay outside, admiring the orangery and the topiary hedges in the formal garden, or strolling around the whopping 4,600 acres of parkland. National Trust - Blakeney National Nature Reserve (35 minutes) is known for its salt marshes, which attract breeding grey seals in the winter months and terns in the summer. A boat trip is one of the best ways to explore this area.
