Hurtle Hill Farm: Worcestershire views

General

  • Spectacular farm location with Worcestershire and Malvern Hills views
  • A 10-minute drive to Bewdley; 15 minutes to West Midlands Safari Park
  • Wild camping with walks close by; a 10-minute drive to shops and pubs

Hurtle Hill Farm has an amazing hilltop location in rural Worcestershire, near the borders with Herefordshire and Shropshire. The spacious grass pitches have the backdrop of the Malvern Hills, woods and a patchwork of farm fields. There’s plenty of space for kids to roam safely around the campsite, and you can bring well-behaved dogs to share your adventures too.

This may be a relatively isolated and peaceful site, yet it’s still within a handy 10-minute drive of pubs and fish and chips shops in the handsome riverside towns of Bewdley and Stourport-on-Severn. If you want to spark up the barbecue, you can pick up essentials in these towns too – there are also a couple of history museums to poke around, and waterside paths to potter along.

You’re in pole position for some serious walking in the Wyre Forest National Nature Reserve, and the long-distance Worcestershire Way starts in Bewdley, making this a relaxed and convenient overnight stop for hikers.

The site has a wild camping vibe, but the owners have added in a couple of basic amenities, including portaloos and recycling. There’s no electricity on site, so remember to pack a torch – and there’s parking by your pitch too. Campfires and firepits are permitted as long as they're off the ground; firewood and kindling are available to buy on site.

Please note

This park has no on-site shower facilities.

At least one of the party members must be aged 18 or over.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the park are unlit.

Please note that the toilet/shower facilities are unisex.

If making a fire, the fuel, logs and coal have to be purchased on site.

Minimum spacing of 3 metres between pitches.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

No bachelor/bachelorette parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Warm welcome on arrival, plenty of fields to choose your pitch so you can join the crowd at the top of the hill (up by the portaloos) or head down and across the hill into the orchard or the adjoining fields for a more wild camp experience. Whilst we were there a couple of lads on bikes arrived late, pitched up and left early, camping away from it all in the orchard, we had families at the top by the entrance with large tents, bbqs, kids & dogs at the top of the hill and we headed down to the first field at the top of the orchard and had a lovely quiet spot.

The farmland is hilly, you’re at the top of a valley, there are level areas to pitch up but you’ll be driving across fields and uneven land, which is great because then everyone isn’t camping on top of each other, you can escape to your own little plot. Plenty of space!

Take your own water unless you have options to filter, the tap isn’t drinking water.

We were told that if we wanted to shower or needed hot water to head up to the farmhouse but we were only here for a night so didn’t need to but kind offer.

We ordered a fire pit and logs which were delivered to us in a fire wheelbarrow, kept us entertained making fire for most of the evening whilst star gazing across the valley. Lovely and dark at night, no real light pollution and lucky enough to have clear skies.

So if you’re a family or group, you’ll be grand up at the top of the hill. Kids get to explore safely in the orchards and fields. Or if you want that semi wild smaller camp set up, you can take yourself away and enjoy the peace and quiet.

Lovely spot, some great walks nearby including the Worcestershire Way. Views across the valley and close to a small local brewery and a gin distillery if you fancy a zig zag walk back… great location, peaceful surroundings and lovely people. Highly recommend, I’ll be back!

Absolutely amazing site! 10/10. Would highly recommend for those who enjoy wild camping and peaceful campsites in beautiful locations. The site is really spacious and it's pitch wherever you like, the portaloo's are impeccably clean, the views from the site are incredible and Nick the owner is so friendly and shared his really interesting knowledge about the area with us. We felt very welcome here and really enjoyed our stay.

We had an amazing time and will be back as soon as we can.

Absolutely beautiful view from the campsite. A very large open site, so you have lots of space and privacy though it was super quiet on our trip anyway! Toilets were clean and fully stocked of toilet roll, soap and hand towels.
Nick and Richard were absolutely lovely. A wealth of information about the area with suggestions of where to go and they were very laid back saying there was no rush to leave site on our last day. They were also happy for the dog to go free (though we would have kept her on the lead more if there had been other people about as she thinks everyone is her best friend!).
It was also a pleasure to wander around the orchards at the bottom of the site with the offer of trying any cherries that might be left - we managed to find one small one!
Would certainly come back again, maybe with some art gear to draw/paint the view and also to take some local walks to some of the places mentioned by Nick and Richard to get to know the area, as we mainly used it as a base to visit family and Worcester and walk around the Malvern hills.
