  • CAMC members-only site a five-minute drive from Brewood, Staffordshire
  • Chillington Hall 10 minutes’ drive; Stoke-on-Trent 40 minutes
  • Dogs welcome; half a mile from the Shropshire Union Canal and a pub
Interested in exploring the attractions of Staffordshire – from the potteries, to Cannock Chase National Landscape? Got your Caravan and Motorhome Club membership? Then head to Kiddemore Green Certificated Location. At this small and well-maintained site, hardstanding pitches come with electric hook-up, not to mention a hefty side of peacefully rural vibes. Kiddemore Green sits just off the road (of the same name) that links Brewood (less than a mile away to the east) to Bishop’s Wood (five minutes’ drive due west). The banks of the Shropshire Union Canal Main Line (on the western outskirts of Brewood) are a top spot for your four-legged companion to get a little exercise. But before all that, you might want to sample a fortifying pint – how fortunate, then, that there’s a traditional pub just across the bridge leading into town. If you prefer lake views to canalside vistas with your drink, head in the opposite direction along Kiddemore Green Road: less than half a mile from the site is another pub with a large sun terrace (and a roaring fire in the colder months). From there, you can hike across Oakley Walk (five minutes) to Belvide Reservoir, where you might spot waterfowls, gulls and kestrels; please note that you need to be a member of West Midlands Bird Club in order to gain access to this site. Alternatively, head to Moatbrook Millennium Nature Reserve (10 minutes), a popular spot for dog walkers, or to Cannock Chase (25 minutes).

Local attractions

Boscobel House and The Royal Oak (five minutes’ drive) consists of a 17th-century former hunting lodge and a historic tree where King Charles II is said to have hidden, fearing for his life, at the end of the English Civil War. Meanwhile, the kids might like to explore the Victorian Farmyard and the adventure playground. The rooms of Chillington Hall (10 minutes) are decorated with period furniture, chandeliers and gilded mirrors. Organised tours take in both the elegant interiors and the estate (on a trailer), with its lake and folly-dotted woodland. On the outskirts of Stoke-on-Trent (40 minutes), the Gladstone Pottery Museum is the home of ‘The Great Pottery Throwdown’ competition, while Middleport Pottery is an industrial site that might look familiar to fans of ‘Peaky Blinders’.
