  • Adults-only site behind a traditional pub in Nottinghamshire
  • Lincoln 20 minutes’ drive; Sherwood Forest half an hour
  • Playground in the pub garden and a fishing lake, plus riverside walks
If you’re keen to stay in the open air but don’t want to miss out on a nightly pint in a cosy local, Swan Lake Caravan Park might just be the place for you. The grass pitches at this adults-only site sit behind the White Swan pub, a traditional boozer in the Nottinghamshire village of Dunham on Trent. There are other advantages to staying here besides the proximity to the pub: the site is just off the A57 (and therefore easy to reach), plus there are bus stops nearby, and it will welcome your canine buddy. On top of that, it has its own fishing lake. Ready to explore the Nottinghamshire countryside? A 10-minute walk takes you to the Dunham Toll Bridge and the path that runs along the River Trent. Then you can walk (or cycle) south towards Fledborough Viaduct and on to Girton Lakes (a five-mile hike); or head north, towards Torksey Castle (about four miles). If you’re feeling adventurous, the Skellingthorpe Walk is a 10-mile path leading all the way into Lincoln (allow at least four hours on foot… or 20 minutes by car). The site has modern toilet and shower facilities, freshwater points and chemical waste disposal, plus an area where you can wash up after your barbecue.

What customers say

A chilled adult-only spot with big, flat spots and a great fishing dam. Ralph, the super helpful warden, and the White Swan pub next door get top marks. Easy trips to Lincoln and lovely river walks. Facilities are mostly clean, but could do with a spruce-up when busy. Still, a gem for its vibe and price.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked Location - lovely pub The White Swan we ate here both days had a few drinks very friendly log fire really chilled. Husband had a good couple of hours fishing on site whilst I explored the area on foot experiencing the very flooded River Trent. Together we also walked over to Fledborough viaduct. Plenty to do - weather wasn’t great for us but on a weekday or Sat there was an option to use the bus links into Lincoln - showers and toilets adequate and easy check in - site was quiet and I liked the mix of lodges and van spots

Disliked Nothing that would put me off recommending

Liked Nothing

Disliked Booked 2 nights as a midway stopover after a Santander to Portsmouth ferry trip on our way back to Scotland. Ferry was cancelled so had to make alternative plans to get back to the U.K. Followed website instructions and emailed campsite. Asked if they had availability for alternative days. They didn't have the decency of a reply.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked Wonderful site. The setting is really well laid out, easy to find and solid hard standing given we stayed over New Year.
Site manager was incredibly helpful and the location is just behind a village pub that we visited three times, also getting a warm welcome from them.
Can’t fault this site, recommend to use.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked Extremely warm welcome
Pitches are a good size
Location - access to walks, very good pub and Indian restaurant

Disliked Nothing really. Just minor comments that a mop and bucket to clean the shower after use and a waste bin in the washing up area would help.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked We’ve now stayed at Swan Lake twice and would definitely return again. The location is brilliant, there’s a fab pub right at the front of the site, and a local bus stop just around the corner which made it so easy to head into Lincoln. Lincoln itself is a beautiful place for a wander, and we also enjoyed a lovely walk down by the river and back, such a nice way to spend the afternoon.

There’s an Indian restaurant just down the road although we haven’t eaten there yet. We did order a takeaway one evening which was delivered to the front of the site, and that was really easy and convenient.

The host is super lovely and friendly, which always makes a stay feel more welcoming. The showers could do with being a little bit cleaner, but the water was nice and hot (which is a big plus for me as I love a hot shower!).

It’s nice and easy to find, in a great spot for exploring, and we’ll definitely be back.

Local attractions

The attractions at Sundown Adventureland (five minutes’ drive) were built with younger visitors (under the age of 10) in mind – kids can ride a tractor or meet the characters from The Wizard of Oz on the Yellow Brick Road snaking through the forest. They'll also believe pigs can fly on the Giddy Piggies ride. Explore 3,000+ acres of parkland at National Trust - Clumber Park (25 minutes), a former ducal estate that now welcomes visitors – whether on foot or bike. Check out the Gothic chapel, pause for a picnic by the lake or in the Pleasure Grounds, or sniff out the Rose Garden, with its dozens of varieties. When in Nottinghamshire, of course you have to pay a visit to Sherwood Forest (half an hour), said to have been home to Robin Hood and his merry men. There are historical reenactments celebrating this folklore hero, or you can simply explore wooded trails, looking out for birds like woodpeckers and pipits.
