Whittlebury Campsite: Outside of the bell tent

General

  • Scenic dog-friendly site on the grounds of Whittlebury Park hotel
  • A 25-minute drive from Milton Keynes and the National Trust’s Stowe
  • Book watersports on the site's lake or the hotel’s golf course and spa

From gliding across the on-site lake on a paddleboard to a round of golf up at the hotel course, Whittlebury Campsite on the grounds of the Whittlebury Park has much to do for the whole family, within walking distance of the Silverstone Circuit, 25 minutes’ drive from Milton Keynes, half an hour from Northampton and an hour from Oxford.

With a lake on site, it's simple to go for a paddle as you please. The site has paddleboards and a two-person canoe available for hire, so if you’re already a fan of watersports or you’re a first-timer wanting to give it a go, you’ll be well-set for practising your skills here.

Looking to perfect your golf swing too? Or, perhaps you’d rather rejuvenate in the hotel’s day spa? If so, the golf course and spa at Whittlebury Park are available to book from the site. You may well be hungry after all the day’s activities too. If so, book one of the hotel's restaurants to dine close to your pitches.

If you’re missing anything from your luggage or your supplies are in need of a top-up, there are several food shops within 10 minutes' drive of the site. And when you fancy mixing your meals up with a visit to a local pub or restaurant, there are several tasty places to eat within the same distance too.

Please note

No naked flames are allowed inside the hired accommodation units.

Fishing is not currently available due to restrictions imposed by the coronavirus outbreak.

Local attractions

Head into Stowe for a little bit of history… from leisurely strolls around the house and gardens at the National Trust’s Stowe (20 minutes’ drive) to ducking into Dido’s Cave (20 minutes) and the surrounding temples, there are many old sites within walking distance of each other.

If your visit to Stowe sparks an interest in gardens, Waddesdon Manor (45 minutes) has rather impressive outdoor spaces too, alongside playgrounds, an aviary and tours around the house.

How about a trek somewhere nice? The ancient woodlands at Everdon Stubbs (half an hour) or the river valleys at Ouse Valley Park (25 minutes) are both packed with wildlife. If you’d rather survey the wildlife with a friend along for the ride (likely to be a good pick for kids), perhaps Catanger Llama Trekking (20 minutes) might be what you’re looking for.

If the whole family is in tow, another family-friendly stop is Gulliver's Land Theme Park Resort (half an hour), home to a host of hair-raising rides. And if you’re after a bit of learning along the way, Bletchley Park (35 minutes) was once the home of codebreakers and now it is a puzzling heritage site with exhibitions and activities.
