What customers say

A tranquil, roomy campsite with level spots and nice country vistas, next to a friendly pub with decent grub. Great for quick stays, but facilities are basic with no overnight toilet/shower access. Some found this inconvenient and pricey. Manager replies show commitment to sorting issues like grass and access.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Lovely old pub. A useful single night stop.

Disliked Very basic. Only suitable for people with ALL their own facilities. Did find a water tap but told by staff they'd been told it was not drinking water. It was off the rising main so we have it a go as there was no alternative. There was also a drain you can lift the cover off to empty your Thetford cassette. Just as well as there are no toilets once the pub has shut. There are electric hook-ups but they cost ten pounds a night so we stuck to our solar powered batteries.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Lovely location, lots of space to set up camp. Quiet and peaceful.
Very friendly staff and the food in the pub was lovely - massive portions and a very fair price.

Disliked There was no showers, but this was advertised so expected.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Great stop over on way to south east. Big field plenty of space, was nice & quiet the night we were there.

Disliked A bit more info when checking in about loos & showers would have been helpful, we were told “ pub loos” which is fine if that’s all there is, other reviewers had mentioned loos & showers, we did see couple of people off campsite coming out of a random door carrying shower stuff in the morning, we were too polite to go investigating!!! We might be wrong though.

Electric grass pitch

Liked The clear level site with country views and easy access. The Wishing Well Inn provided a warm welcome and great meals.

Disliked The lack of water and waste disposal actual on the site rather than at the rear of the inn.

Liked Peaceful, nice walk into Bourne. Lovely food in pub onsite.

Disliked Nothing. Knew about the no showers situation so not an issue and would come back for a short stay.

Local attractions

If you’ve decided on outdoor activities as a theme, there are plenty of places to get out for walks and cycling days nearby – and of course, Lincolnshire’s famously rather flat so any such activities should be relatively easy on the knees. For alternative pursuits, it’s 15 minutes’ drive to a horse riding centre, 20 minutes to a golf course and half an hour to Rutland Water for fishing and watersports. Prefer your days out to have a bit of history behind them? Get down to the gorgeous Burghley House (half an hour’s drive) for a wander around the grand building, the sculpture garden and the intriguing Garden of Surprises. Grimsthorpe Castle (15 minutes) is another place that should be on your list for pretty views inside and out. For a bit of urban time, pop down to Peterborough (35 minutes) to visit the cathedral and museum before boarding the Nene Valley Railway, or take a wander around Stamford (25 minutes), which also has a pool if you fancy a dip while on your travels.
