A peaceful rural location is a wonderful thing for an outdoor stay – but the ability to walk to town amenities and attractions is also a very handy thing. So, it stands to reason that being able to tick both boxes makes the Lincolnshire location of Heather William Lodge an enticing one indeed. This smart lodge is in the grounds of Glen Lodge and next to Woodhall Country Park, so the surroundings are thoroughly rural and peaceful. It may feel rather secluded, but in fact Woodhall Spa town centre is only about half an hour’s walk away through scenic woods – and with a good collection of pubs, restaurants and shops at the end of your walk, plus leisure attractions such as a heated outdoor pool and the famed Kinema in the Woods. So, a big thumbs up to the location – but what of the accommodation? Well, that’s equally excellent, with everything fitted out to a high standard. The lodge sleeps up to six, in a kingsize master bedroom, a twin room and a sofa bed. There’s a main shower room along with an ensuite shower room for the main bedroom, and all towels and bed linen are provided. How you spend your time in the lodge is up to you (and partly down to the weather…). You might choose to cosy up in the living space, which has comfy sofas, a 4K Smart TV (with Netflix, Disney+, and Prime Video) and an electric fireplace, or you might like to make full use of the open-plan kitchen to prep a meal and serve it up in the dining area. In summer, you’ll probably want to be out on the deck – a lovely area for a morning coffee or evening drink.

Local attractions

Being just next to Woodhall Country Park means that you’ll only be a short way from bike hire, fishing lakes and a play area, plus cycling and nature trails. For longer walks and bike rides, get onto the Spa Trail or Water Rail Way, both of which pass close by, or set your sights on the Lincolnshire Wolds National Landscape (about 20 minutes’ drive). You’ll want to walk into Woodhall Spa at some point too of course, to see the Dambusters Memorial, visit the Cottage Museum and spend a memorable evening watching a film at the Kinema in the Woods.The town also has a heated outdoor pool and a golf course. Straying just a little further away, you could visit the National Trust’s Tattershall Castle (10 minutes’ drive), take the kids to Tattershall Farm Park (10 minutes), see the planes at the Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre (20 minutes) or spend the day in Lincoln (40 minutes).
