General

  • Farm campsite with spectacular views, near Hereford and Leominster
  • A 45-minute drive to the Wye Valley; 20 minutes to Ludlow
  • Wild camping on spacious pitches near Herefordshire Trail walks

Upper Bache Farm Campsite is a rural pop-up site in the scenic hills of northern Herefordshire. Situated above an Iron Age hill fort, the farm is surrounded by views of the Black Mountains, Cleehill, Hergest Ridge and the Malvern Hills. For all you active types, there are plenty of gorgeous walks around the site, which links on to the long-distance Herefordshire Trail.

If you’re after a laidback mini-break with minimal fuss attached, this wild camping site could be just the place for you. With a few basic amenities (toilets and washing facilities) and spacious pitches spread over several fields, you’ll not be troubled by noise from other guests, and kids and dogs can let off steam in safety too.

You’re pretty much off grid here, but there’s plenty round and about so you’ll never go without. For a start, you can sample farm-produced eggs and veg, along with home-made (and home-grown) perry or cider, as you spark up your barbecue of an evening. Other bits and pieces are easy to source too, with handy supermarkets, posh gourmet bakers and butchers in the historic half-timbered towns of Hereford, Leominster or Ludlow. There’s also a cracking local pub a 20-minute stroll away, with a reputation for good food and draft ales.

The location cannot be faulted as this is deep into our countryside. Lovely views.

    Friendly owners which is nice.

    Disliked:

Site is basic, with 2 chemical loos. Running water consisted of an open field tap. That said we are/can be totalled self contained.

Owners are new I suspect to this opportunity and are learning as they develop the business.

    £5 for a dog was/is excessive.

From the manager...

Hi Richard,

Thankyou for your review. We are glad you liked the site, and appreciate your feedback. The £5 charge for a dog is stated on the website, as is the fact that we charge per person. Despite this you brought and extra person and dog, neither of which you paid for. You also totally disregarded the pitches that we had set up and instead chose to park in the exact place we had asked you not to park. We tried to be as welcoming to you as possible despite all of the above.

A simple, peaceful gem of a site.08/01/2021

Great location. We parked our campervan on a level grassy pitch with a huge and beautiful view all around, and with Bach Iron age fortification on the hillside opposite. Very peaceful, only rustling leaves and birds.
The very friendly owners,Tim and Jenny, came by later to introduce themselves and chat a bit.
The site is basic: it has 2 openair sinks with cold fresh water for washing/washing up, and 2 portaloos - spotlessly clean. So, after a difficult arrival, we soon found we loved the situation and the way it’s been set up.There are several excellent walks directly from the site. We’ll certainly return - it’s a gem.

    Disliked:

We had some difficulty finding the site, as the postcode takes you to a different farm, and there were no signs or notices, even when we did get to the site, where the farm itself is uninhabited and being renovated. We’d suggest better guidance online, and signage to guide new arrivals.

From the manager...

Thanks so much for your review and feedback Jim, we are glad you had a lovely time and hope to see you again in the future.

A rural campsite, with wonderful pitches and a very friendly owner!07/26/2021

This campsite is a real gem; wonderfully rural, with stunning views and lovely walks on your doorstep. The pitches are so nice and our young children loved the little paths that had been mown through the long grass! The only facilities currently are a couple of portaloos (which were well appointed and clean) and a nice big, double sink with lovely cool tap water, but what more do you need when camping?! The owner's daughter came to greet us and show us our pitch upon arrival, then the owner came later on to introduce himself and have a chat. He was so welcoming and friendly - a real nice chap! Sadly, we only stayed one night, but I hope to return here again one day.

    Disliked:

Not really a dislike, but it was a little tricky to find... however, a friendly farmer pointed us in the right direction when we got a bit lost trying to find it!
