  • Family-friendly Cotswold valley site based on an 90-acre organic farm
  • A 20-minute drive from Westonbirt, The National Arboretum and Stroud
  • A 45-minute walk to restaurants, pubs and cafés in Nailsworth
Get set for a stay in a Cotswold valley that has a flower meadow and views for miles. With 90 acres of space and plenty of livestock, Sallywood Farm is a working Gloucestershire farm dedicated to environmental stewardship, with a number of conservation and rewilding projects underway. Guests here won’t just get to share the gorgeous natural setting – it’s also an excellent starting point for long country walks along the ancient footpaths that begin from the farm. There’s plenty of livestock around the farm, including free range chickens, and its non-animal features include loos and warm showers. The field and facilities are very finely set up for any family break, but what’s the surrounding area like? Well, that’s mighty fine too. The market town of Nailsworth is 45 minutes’ walk from the site (or a 10-minute drive). The restaurants, pubs and cafés are part of its highlight reel, and it hosts a monthly market. Further on – 20 minutes’ drive to be exact – is Stroud, which runs a farmers’ market showcasing produce from several local farms, artisan bakers, cheesemakers and other foodie bits and pieces. Of course, Bath (50 minutes’ drive) and Bristol (40 minutes) are cultural, foodie and historical havens in their own rights too. Upon your return, there’s no need to retire right to your spacious new home (unless you’d like to get some quiet time, of course). That’s because the site has a designated firepit set up with seating for any seeking somewhere to mingle or stargaze.

What customers say

Peaceful farm campsite with lovely views. Spacious, sheltered pitches with nature sounds. Clean facilities (hot showers, eco-toilets) though some minor issues noted. Friendly staff, great walks. Bumpy track, patchy comms. Pack sturdy shoes!

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked The campsite is in an idyllic location, nestled in a valley, with no road noise and just the sounds of wildlife. We sat out in the evening watching bats fly over, and listening to owls hooting.

The wash house/ composting loos were clean and neat, and the shower was hot, however the doors had swelled in the heat so it wasn’t possible to lock them. There were so few families in the field this wasn’t really an issue.

Sturdy footwear is needed as there are quite a lot of old rabbit holes to test the ankles, and although the pitches are flat, the site is on a hill.

We are looking forward to staying again soon!

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked We family of three with a 4yr old, had a pleasant stay at sallywood farm. We were able to upgrade from wild camping to clamping due to the severe weather (with hail) this was a very welcome suggestion from the owner. There is a small indoor kitchen with stove, freezer and fridge to use and the facilities are clean. The owner is very friendly. We made a wonderful hike to the village through the fields over footpaths. In the village are multiple spots to lunch or dine out.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked It’s a peaceful campsite with specious pitches and excellent, but rustic, facilities and a wonderful view. We camped on the field for wild camping and shared the site with just the birds and butterflies.

Local attractions

With all the goods you’re likely to have gathered from local farm shops and farmers’ markets, you should be nicely prepared for a picnic at Coaley Peak (10 minutes’ drive), where views reach over the Forest of Dean and Severn Vale. The energy from the aforementioned spread might come in handy for walks around the 700-acre Tudor house and grounds at Newark Park (20 minutes) or the plant life haven at Westonbirt, The National Arboretum (20 minutes). Even more adventurous sports can be sought out at Cotswold Water Park (40 minutes) – canoeing, kayaking, wakeboarding, windsurfing and so on. It's no secret around here that Bristol (45 minutes) and Bath (50 minutes) make for packed days out. The former has Banksy street art and a buzzy harbour, while Bath has Roman spas, architectural sites and the Jane Austen Centre. Looking to see more historical properties too? Woodchester Mansion (15 minutes) and Rodmarton Manor (25 minutes) aren’t far off either.
