Well-kept pitches

General

  • Family-run caravan park near Blakeney in the Royal Forest of Dean
  • Within a half-hour drive of Puzzlewood and the River Wye
  • Easy access to the A48 for days out and cross-country travel

It’s gorgeous green views galore for those staying at Valley View Park, a family-run caravan park in the Royal Forest of Dean. Fields, forests and hills are all around, giving guests not only a rather fine backdrop for alfresco meals but also easy access to miles of trails for bike rides and rural rambles.

If you’re one of those folks that likes your rural retreat to come with a side order of useful amenities, you’ll be chuffed to note that the handy location just off the A48 means you can nip over to the nearby villages of Newnham or Blakeney in a few minutes when your day’s exertions have left you in need of a pint, a curry or a bag of chips.

Travel further along that road and you’ll encounter a whole heap more tiptop days out – canoe trips, heritage railway rides and Puzzlewood’s magic-themed trails are all within a half-hour drive, as is the cathedral city of Gloucester.

On site is geared towards the whims of those whose tastes lie in life’s simpler pleasures (who needs discos and video games when you’ve got those views to gawp at while sizzling a sausage on the barbie, eh?) A smart modern bathroom block houses toilets, showers and accessible facilities, and there’s a launderette for tarting up your togs.

Please note

A charge of £1,00 (R23,34) applies for the use of the shower.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro) and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

Didn't like are first pitch it was right next to barrier and the road ask to move which was a better pitch but cost another £5

From the manager...

Thank you for leaving your kind review.

Your original pitch was one of our no awning cheaper pitches, I'm glad to hear you liked your second pitch but as these are more expensive there was a little extra to pay.

Nice site, clean and tidy. Pitches level and direct access from the main road. Covid rules are only 2 to the toilets/washroom etc. Not a problem for us as we use all our own on board facilities. Noticed that the toilet block was cleaned while we were there.
Small dog walking field directly off the lower gravel pitches.
Nice views from the hardstanding pitches, but better from the lower level gravel pitches. Small playground for kids on the lower level
Good central location for going to places of interest in the Forest of Dean.
We would definitely stay here again.

    Disliked:

Some road noise on the hardstanding pitches, but that is a price I dont mind paying for the ease of access. ( I live on a main road anyway so may not have bothered me as much as others.)
Dog pooh on pitch on arrival but thats not the owners fault, just incosiderate people! Luckily I have my own dog so had a plentiful supply of poo bags!

From the manager...

Thank you for taking the time to leave such a kind review.

I am sorry to hear there was dog mess on your pitch, thankfully it didn't cause to much upset.

I'm glad to hear you'd like to stay again and we'd love to welcome you back

Easy access, pitches very clearly marked, Jason the owner met us at the barrier with a friendly greeting he then showed us to our pitch Due the lovely view of the valley he said he said we go A frame in or out he did not mind which was an added bonus. Toilet and shower facilities were spotlessly clean but paying extra for shower is a bit much considering out of season prices are £25 per night for a fully serviced pitch. There is a adequate meadow adjacent to site pitches for dog exercise but we felt there are numerous people that were breaking rules by letting their dogs off leads and doing their business in empty site pitches which to us was the only thing that let this site down.

Absolutely lovely, very peaceful site with fabulous views. Facilities were really clean

    Disliked:

Only issue we had was when leaving. We were staying on the lower part of the site and needed to go up a ramp to the exit. The ramp is quite narrow and we got stuck halfway up (and someone else had struggled the day before). Thanks to some lovely people who helped push the caravan, we made it but I think the ramp would be easier if it was wider and wasn’t gravelled

From the manager...

Thank you for your review.

We take on board all feed back, the roads on the park have to be gravel to comply with our planning permission. The access to the valley view pitches is 4 meters wide again inline with our planning permission.

Once again thanks for your review and we hope to welcome you again in the future.

Local attractions

Boots and bikes at the ready – one could easily spend many a day roaming the trails of the Royal Forest of Dean. A popular pick is the four-mile art-meets-nature sculpture trail 20 minutes from the park; those with rather more time on their hands might like to pick sections of the Wye Valley Walk or the Gloucestershire Way long-distance trails.

For a close-up view of the forest’s trees, zip through the canopy at Go Ape!, 10 minutes away, or venture along the eerie woodland paths at Puzzlewood (20 minutes). Prefer to take in the views in comfort? Head to the Wye Valley Railway, 20 minutes away, for a scenic heritage train ride.

If you’re keen to see what lies beneath, take an underground tour at Clearwell Caves, 20 minutes away; those who prefer to stay out in the daylight may like instead to join a canoe trip from Ross-on-Wye or take a trot around Gloucester’s cathedral and Jet Age Museum.
