Tree-lined camping field

  • Simple pitches at a working farm in the central Peak District
  • Bamford Edge and Hathersage open-air pool five minutes' drive
  • Farm eggs for sale on site; two pubs within a mile's walk
You’ll be pretty much right in the centre of the Peak District National Park when you pitch up at Winhill View – this site is on a working farm on the edge of the Derwent river, just across the water from the village of Bamford. That makes this a particularly excellent location for walkers, who can get to the likes of the Thornhill Trail, Bamford Edge and Ladybower Reservoir with just a short drive (or by setting out on foot). Mam Tor, Castleton’s caves, Bakewell and Chatsworth are all within easy reach by car too, so you’ll have no shortage of ways to fill days around here. If you’re heading out hiking (or in fact, even if you’re not…) there’s surely no finer way to start the day than with some farm-fresh eggs, which you can buy on site to cook up for an excellent breakfast. Come evening time, you may like to get a barbecue going (there are three shops within a 10-minute drive for supplies) or head out to a local pub – there are a couple of excellent ones within a mile’s walk. Back at the farm, you’ll be staying on simple but well-kept pitches within a peaceful field surrounded by trees, with access to a washing-up area and toilet/shower facilities.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: This is one of those sites that manages to feel like "wild camping with permission". The site is a small, well sheltered and fairly flat field close to farm buildings. There is a decent hot shower and a clean, standard event toilet. There is also a sink and cold tap - more than enough facilities for an occasional wild camper like me. The owner is very friendly and has no problem with roof tents.
Best of all is the location which is right at the southern end of the Lady Bower/Derwent reservoir complex. Easy and direct access to many walks around the area.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: It was a good location with lots of walks near by and a 5 minuet drive from nice pubs and village's. Great view of Bamford edge from the campsite aswell.

Basic toilet/shower facilities so not the best for children but perfectly adequate for adults.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Really beautiful location on a lovely local farm. Good shower, portaloo toilet and washing station. All in clean good working condition. Perfect basic setup. Great base for a days walking with many iconic peaks in reach. We parked up and didn’t get in the car again for 2 days - bliss.

Owner also really nice - came and said hello but left us to it for the rest of the time

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Lovely location and very quiet campsite with beautiful walks on the doorstep.

Disliked: Shower was actually ok, clean with lots of hot water. The portaloo however was awful, would not stay here again due to this. I have stayed at similarly priced campsites with proper toilets.
