General

  • Peaceful site on a smallholding two miles from Tideswell
  • 45 minutes' drive from the Chatsworth Estate
  • Back-to-basics site with eco-friendly bathroom facilities

A peaceful Peak District farm stay, with stunning scenic views and well away from main roads? Or maybe you’d rather the convenience of being just a couple of miles from a village for easy access to a supermarket, pubs and a takeaway chippie supper?

Have a stay at Bushey Heath and you can indeed have both – this Derbyshire smallholding site is a couple of miles from the amenities of Tideswell, so you can walk down there in 45 minutes or so when the need takes you, or you can stick around on site for fresh air and rural antics. Walkers, climbers and cyclists will find plenty to keep them busy nearby, and there’s a woodland area just next to the site that doubles as a popular play area for the nippers.

However you choose to fill your days, you should be in for a good night’s sleep here – no music is allowed on site, to give all guests the chance for serene slumbers. Facilities have been kept suitably low key, too, and given an eco-friendly edge where possible. The unisex toilet block has proper loos (with rainwater flush system) and showers heated from a ground source heat pump, and electricity is cleverly provided by the site’s own turbine. There’s also a cold water tap and recycling bins.

Please note

No bachelor/bachelorette parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

A charge of £1 (5 x 20p coins) per ten minutes applies for the use of the shower.

Quiet, open field with lovely views. Basic facilities but that is what I was looking for.

    Disliked:

I think it would be better if they put up the price and offered a free show. Not many people turn up with 5x 20p in their pockets.

It was a quiet farm for camping. Good for a weekend away from the city as you would be surrounded by lovely animals.

    Disliked:

The shower cost 20p for 2 (or 1)mins. I was expected to be free as already pay for the camping site. And it only accepts for 20p not pound or other coins.

Owner was very friendly. Nice quiet, low key campsite, numbers are limited so it doesn't get over crowded even on a bank holiday. The facilities were basic, but adequate. The weather was perfect!

    Disliked:

Having to pay for showers - although they were nice and hot. In poor weather the lack of shelter over the washing up area would make life unpleasant.

Local attractions

It’s a good idea to come prepped for action: you’re in a prime Peak District position here, within easy reach of lots of walks and bike rides. Top local picks include a canter around Castleton (five miles away) to see medieval Peveril Castle, climb Mam Tor or delve into the caverns around the town – particularly the rather fine Blue John Cavern.

Those exploring by bike may well like to start with a ride on the Monsal Trail, five miles away. If you’re all set for a scramble, head to the rocks of Froggatt Edge (15 minutes’ drive) or Stanage Edge (25 minutes). Fuel and/or reward for all such efforts can be found at the ice cream shop in Bradwell (10 minutes away) or by heading off to Bakewell (20 minutes) to feast on its famed puddings and tarts.

If you’ve never been before, set forth with haste to the Peak District’s top attraction, Chatsworth Estate, 45 minutes away. You’ll easily fill a day over here strolling around the stately home and gardens, perusing the produce in the farm shop or paying visits to the farmyard or adventure playground.
