  • Peak District touring pitches at a farm in the village of Wetton
  • Walk from site to Thor's Cave; Alton Towers 20 minutes' drive
  • A short walk from the village pub and tea room, plus walking trails
If the key components of your break in the Peak District National Park are a) easy access to walks, and b) easy access to a good post-walk pint, then you’ll probably be most pleased with the location of Yew Tree Farm Touring. This Derbyshire touring site is on the edge of the village of Wetton, opposite the village car park, which functions as the start point for several walking routes. That means that once you’ve parked your van, you can simply set out on foot to get to Thor’s Cave, meander along the Manifold Way or find various other ways to soak up some of the scenery. If you don’t mind a little bit of a drive, the likes of Dovedale and the Heights of Abraham can be on the schedule too. Wherever you end up (even if it’s Alton Towers, which is also nearby), you’ll be able to finish the day with a well-earned drink at the local pub, which is just a couple of minutes’ walk from the site. The village also has a tea room that’s open at weekends if a piece of cake and a cuppa is more your style. The site opens up its on-site refreshment trailer during summer weekends (from 10am to 5pm) to sell locally sourced Jersey ice cream, drinks and hot drinks. For dinner, you may want to bring along a barbecue and load it up with supplies from shops in Ashbourne (20 minutes’ drive) instead. Touring pitches are set up in a five-acre field, so there’s plenty of space for everyone to spread out and have a bit of peace. There's a shower and toilet block on site, with outdoor washing-up facilities and a hot-water dog wash, as well as a chemical toilet disposal point.

Liked Brilliant location for walking and cycling.
Pitches are very spacious and the showers etc were very clean.
The owners and staff were very helpful and nothing was too much trouble for them to help you with anything.

Non-electric grass touring pitch

Liked Lovely flat site with lovely walking nearby. Local pub good too. Though landlord can seem a bit offish but got much better on night 2&3.
Site has 2 toilets and 2 showers each for men and ladies. Were kept clean which was very tricky with rain and mud. 2 washing up sinks, 1 lower washing up sink too for people in a chair or child.
Lovely people who were happy to be helpful and tow people off if needed after all the rain.

Disliked Water was not hot for showers. Shower/loo block is unheated so showering is cold. We stayed 3 nights over Easter, weather was not kind for tents due to high winds so many did not come or came and went. Whilst we were there there was between 4-8 pitches filled though many more booked. Total of 40 or more pitches avaliable so would be a tight fit and queues if all pitches were taken.

From the manager: Hi Claire,

Thank you so much for your lovely comments. I am happy to say we have another toilet & shower block being installed over the next month, so hopefully that will alleviate any future problems with the block being too busy.

We hope to welcome you again in the future!

Non-electric grass motorhome pitch

Liked Loved the nearby Thor's cave. Definitely worth a visit.

Disliked The reason for booking this campsite was one of the features being a 'peaceful' campsite. We also requested a 'quiet pitch' on booking. All looked good when we arrived. However, on arriving back from our walk the tent next to us had a large group of people who were playing music. It wasn't overly loud, but we didn't want to have to listen to it - I should have checked there was a no music policy on booking. We tried to move pitch and our small campervan got stuck in the mud. Fortunately a very kind soul came to our assistance. It was better once we moved. There were a number of cars getting stuck in the mud though. This site is clearly a work in progress though, so hopefully this will be sorted for other damp days.
