  • Spacious pitches at a family-run farm in rural Bedfordshire
  • Grafham Water and St Neots 15 minutes' drive away
  • Well-stocked village shop and off-licence on site; pub a mile away
Grab yourselves a break that covers two counties with a stay at Top End Farm, on the border of Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire. In the village of Little Staughton, this family-run farm stretches over 11 acres, so lovely country views are standard. The pitches are spread across two fields, making plenty of space for all guests to set their kit up and relax. Facilities have been very well thought out too, particularly the two heated toilets and shower blocks (with large shower cubicles, hair dryers, shaver points and an accessible wet room) and the kitchen area, which has a food prep area, a freezer and two large sinks. There’s a play area to keep the kids busy too. Sorting food to prep is a doddle, as the site has firepits that can be hired for an additional fee. The farm is also home to the village shop and off-licence, which stocks local veg and fresh bread along with meats for the barbecue. For a more extensive stock-up, there are supermarkets in St Neots, 15 minutes’ drive away. And if you don’t feel like cooking? The folk on site can provide you with details of various takeaways that deliver to the site, or the village pub is a little over a mile away. The farm also has an information hut with all manner of local info on places to go and things to do – activities nearby include fishing, golf, various aqua parks and bike rides, or days out at the Shuttleworth Collection, Woburn Safari Park and Wyboston Lakes.

Liked Everything. This is definitely the best campsite we’ve stayed in this year. Big wide pitches, lots of countryside walks, the wardens are friendly and helpful and the facilities are always clean and tidy. We will be back!

1 bedroom ready tent (five person)

Liked Nice spacious site with plenty of space for kids to play and a playground that my kids loved. We had a 'ready' tent which was well kitted out with everything you could possibly need for your camping trip including air beds, fridge, kettle and cooking cooking equipment. Toilet/shower block and kitchen facilities were clean (when other uses could be bothered to clean up after themselves). Wardens very friendly and helpful. There's a shop on site which was handy. Information but was useful with info on local attractions and facilities.

Disliked I was a bit taken aback by being asked for a £50 deposit (cash) incase of any damage. Totally understand why this is in place but this isn't clear when booking (not in T&Cs) or on any other correspondence after booking. I didn't have cash on me but luckily the shop does cashback. Whilst I had no problems and got it back, it was something I hadn't budgeted for. This needs to be made very clear when booking. I also think something needs to be put in place in terms of paperwork (including a recipet) as I don't think it's appropriate to be handing cash over and not having evidence trail of paying it or how damages are recorded/evidenced or paid for.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Peaceful. Wardens are very helpful and friendly. Lovely clean toilets and showers. Great play area for kids. Fully stocked farm shop on site. Water and electric very close to pitch.

Disliked Lots of wasps around but that is not the fault of the campsite. Just nature.

Local attractions

Keen to try something that will get everyone involved and perhaps raise the competitive spirit? There are a few places nearby for that. Head to Colmworth Golf Club (10 minutes’ drive) for some putting action, or Sporting Targets (20 minutes) to discover which clay pigeon shooter among you has the greatest aim. At Southlake Waterpark (15 minutes), you can try different watersports, including paddleboarding, waterskiing and wakeboarding. Grafham Water (15 minutes) is a little more laidback, with activities such as fishing, sailing and peaceful bicycle rides. Like animals of all shapes and sizes? For wildlife watching, head to one of these three: Woburn Safari Park (35 minutes), Herrings Green Activity Farm & Bird of Prey Centre (half an hour) and the Paxton Pits Nature Reserve (15 minutes). For a day of general pottering, St Ives (half an hour) should do the trick, with its pretty town centre, riverside walks and indie shops. Shuttleworth Collection & Gardens (20 minutes) has a short woodland trail and a vintage aircraft collection, making it a nice contender for slow-paced days out too.
