  • Spacious pitches at a family-run farm in rural Bedfordshire
  • Grafham Water and St Neots 15 minutes' drive away
  • Well-stocked village shop and off-licence on site; pub a mile away
Grab yourselves a break that covers two counties with a stay at Top End Farm, on the border of Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire. In the village of Little Staughton, this family-run farm stretches over 11 acres, so lovely country views are standard. The pitches are spread across two fields, making plenty of space for all guests to set their kit up and relax. Facilities have been very well thought out too, particularly the two heated toilets and shower blocks (with large shower cubicles, hair dryers, shaver points and an accessible wet room) and the kitchen area, which has a food prep area, a freezer and two large sinks. There’s a play area to keep the kids busy too. If you're bringing along dogs, take them up to the dog roaming area that covers the top part of the field; they're welcome to run free here, under supervision, as the area is securely enclosed. Sorting food to prep is a doddle, as the site has firepits that can be hired for an additional fee. The farm is also home to the village shop and off-licence, which stocks local veg and fresh bread along with meats for the barbecue. For a more extensive stock-up, there are supermarkets in St Neots, 15 minutes’ drive away. And if you don’t feel like cooking? The folk on site can provide you with details of various takeaways that deliver to the site, or the village pub is a little over a mile away. The farm also has an information hut with all manner of local info on places to go and things to do – activities nearby include fishing, golf, various aqua parks and bike rides, or days out at the Shuttleworth Collection, Woburn Safari Park and Wyboston Lakes.

What customers say

Guests rave about the big, flat pitches, clean facilities, and super helpful staff. The shop's well-stocked, and it's great for families with a good play area. Some found Wi-Fi patchy and play gear a bit old, but management's on it.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Lovely spacious campsite. Really friendly staff. Convenient farm shop with lots to choose from.

Disliked Due to lots of people staying there for concerts, the toilets/showers were overused so could’ve done with being cleaned a bit more frequently.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Spacious, efficient warden, water and electric points close by. Shower and toilet block clean and no queues despite site being packed and most pitches full. We were able to pay for a late leaving time which was great and meant we could take our time packing down. The on-site shop was great! Over all we had a lovely stay and would happily camp here again.

Liked The safe open space is great for children to play. We have been coming here for 15 years.

Disliked The morons (not unique to this site) who blast out music

From the manager: Thank you for your kind review and hope to see you for year 16

We do try to keep ontop of ones who think they can play music at a level that is not resonable our wardens are always on site to help too if you find we have missed something just give us a call

Electric grass pitch

Liked We visited Top End Farm as a dry run for a trip to France this summer, giving us a chance to check out some of our newer equipment without being too far from home.

The sanitary facilities are great, it's a very clean and well equipped toilet/shower block. I'd have preferred a slightly longer timer on the showers before they automatically stopped the flow.

Our kids liked most of the playground, though some of it is a little dated. It was good being able to let them run around all day in a contained space.

It was very handy having the shop close by, prices were a little elevated from major supermarket levels but not horrendously so.

We liked the freedom to have our fire pit and were fortunate with the timing of our trip and the weather that it wasn't too hot and dry to be allowed to use it.

Disliked We were unfortunate enough to be sandwiched between two groups who were very loud, didn't consistently keep their dog on a lead so it wandered into our pitch, played music until quite late and swore a lot. The swearing was particularly annoying as we had our two young children with us, and they could repeatedly hear it.

In all fairness we didn't contact the wardens to ask them to intervene, as once the swearing had been heard by the kids the damage was done. In my opinion if they were to carry out a few more proactive checks i.e. at 22:30 to remind everyone of the quiet rules, rather than be reactive to people reporting then this would elevate the rating.

We also found that overnight/early morning on Sunday morning someone had let their dog foul the communal field area (the size of the faeces pile and concentrated area makes me sceptical that the owner could have been unaware it would have been happening - and of course the dog should have been on a lead and with the owner).
Unfortunately if you give some people an inch, they take a mile.

We couldn't connect to the WiFi at any point during the weekend, but this wasn't a major problem as we had enough phone signal to get by.

Local attractions

Keen to try something that will get everyone involved and perhaps raise the competitive spirit? There are a few places nearby for that. Head to Colmworth Golf Club (10 minutes’ drive) for some putting action, or Sporting Targets (20 minutes) to discover which clay pigeon shooter among you has the greatest aim. At Southlake Waterpark (15 minutes), you can try different watersports, including paddleboarding, waterskiing and wakeboarding. Grafham Water (15 minutes) is a little more laidback, with activities such as fishing, sailing and peaceful bicycle rides. Like animals of all shapes and sizes? For wildlife watching, head to one of these three: Woburn Safari Park (35 minutes), Herrings Green Activity Farm & Bird of Prey Centre (half an hour) and the Paxton Pits Nature Reserve (15 minutes). For a day of general pottering, St Ives (half an hour) should do the trick, with its pretty town centre, riverside walks and indie shops. Shuttleworth Collection & Gardens (20 minutes) has a short woodland trail and a vintage aircraft collection, making it a nice contender for slow-paced days out too.
