Views of Blencathra are stunning, the site itself has all the amenities needed including a sheltered cooking area. Also location is excellent and close to local hubs like Penrith and Keswick. Second time we’ve stayed at Gill Head and will definitely be back!

Really clean and good facilities, we were on the top field non electric tent area which was lovely and peaceful and quiet for our ten month old baby, she slept all night!

The other two fields were much busier with louder children which was perfect for older children but I am pleased we were on the non electric area as it was much more to our liking. Not a dislike, more a preference in case you are looking for calmer vibes!

The shop was a nice addition and it was good there was a common room area for people to use although it was full of big groups when we were there.

Compared to other campsites we stayed at, we didn’t think the facilities were super clean and there were people out and about and drinking alcohol outside until late.

Great welcome host, site well maintained, welfare facility’s regularly cleaned and hot showers perfect after a long walk.
Communal areas are a real bonus and children’s play area kept the children entertained.

Great campsite. Covered cooking facilities next to the communal area were very useful. Showers were hot and powerful. Everything clean and tidy. Pitch was decent, flat enough where we were and plenty of space. Great location for Pooley Bridge/ Ullswater in particular.

Minimal parking options as you cannot park on grass.

Facilities are well maintained and clean.

The spacious pitches with incredible views, a fabulous communal room that was incredibly cosy and useful, clean and well-appointed washing facilities. This was a great base from which to explore the delights of the north-west Lake District.
