  • Quiet and peaceful RV park with good facilities in Bay City, Texas
  • A five-minute drive into the city; 35 minutes to Matagorda Bay
  • Spacious concrete sites, wifi, hot showers, and a laundry service
Whether it’s wandering around downtown or birdwatching and wildlife spotting around islands and bays, 60 North RV Park will let you in on the way of life around Bay City. Just a five-minute drive from downtown (where it’s bars, restaurants, museums and shopping galore), this RV park is also 35 minutes’ drive from Matagorda Bay, a real sweet sandy strip where windsurfers often flock, right by Matagorda Island. Now, how about your base? Well, 60 North RV Park is quiet, well-maintained and peaceful (all the makings of a relaxing break) and there’s a full laundry service with machines and dryers, as well as separate restrooms with hot showers. The sites themselves are spacious and concrete, with access to wifi to make plotting out your plan of action easier. You might want to take a dip in a swimming pool first (there are several within five minutes’ drive of the site) or perhaps just call into one of the local bars for a nice drink to chase down the sunset? Handily, everyone is welcome here, whether it’s for an overnight stay or for several weeks. That includes the snowbirds over-wintering in the sun and plant workers employed locally. Dogs won't be left out either, as they're allowed along for the ride.

Local attractions

You may want to start things off at a slow pace and if so, there’s a golf course (five minutes’ drive) close by for that. Handily, here, you won’t have to go far for Bay City’s leisurely attractions, including the MOPAC Train Depot (five minutes), a historic replica of the town's old depot, or Matagorda County Museum (five minutes) with cultural tidbits about Matagorda County. Le Tulle Park (five minutes) is another of those spots nearby, this time with an 18-hole golf course, picnic tables with grills (barbecuing time, anyone?), two open-air pavilions and two lakes. Riverside Park (15 minutes) is primed for a paddle instead, as the Colorado river runs for 27 miles down to Matagorda Beach and you can row all the way there if you wish. While you’re down that way, Matagorda Island (35 minutes) will be the first of many wildlife watching hotspots at your fingertips. Only accessed by hiking, biking or vehicles on scheduled hunts and tours, the offshore barrier island is similar to Mad Island WMA (45 minutes), where you’ll be able to jump onto a wildlife tour, scheduled hunt or fishing trip. Wildlife's the star at San Bernard National Wildlife Refuge (55 minutes) too, but especially birds – there are more than 320 species that visit over the year.
