  • Leafy and scenic 55+ resort on the banks of the Little Manatee River
  • A 35-minute drive from Tampa, St Petersburg; 40 minutes from Sarasota
  • Heated pool, boat ramp, fishing pier, shuffleboard and entertainment
Dreaming of peaceful days and nights by the water, and letting your worries and troubles flow away? Park up for scenic stays (and an extensive activity programme) at River Vista RV Village, a Florida park on the outskirts of Ruskin and roughly half an hour from Tampa, St Petersburg and Sarasota. On the banks of the Little Manatee River – known as one of the most pristine blackwaters in southwest Florida – this is a prime spot for those seeking a mix of fun and adventure. Half an hour's drive from Fort Lonesome and near to Little Manatee River State Park, the park is well set-up for fishing getaways, boating trips and hiking hols, with a boat ramp and fishing pier in the park and hiking trails within 20 minutes. Prefer to spend trips with feet up? Kicking back is a cinch hereabouts: there’s shuffleboard and horseshoes for slow-paced days at base camp, a heated pool when it’s time to float the stress away, and a communal fire ring next to the river for cosy chats with fellow guests. Entertainment is sorted too, as dances, bingo, karaoke and themed nights make regular appearances on the calendar, and there are barbecues and happy hours for evenings spent mingling. Need an hour or two to yourself? The centre of Ruskin is about five minutes away, and there are plenty of restaurants and bars to choose from if some quiet time is sought.

Local attractions

Golfing and Florida are basically synonymous, so it should come as no surprise that guests won’t have to venture far for a game on the links, with a handful of courses (and country clubs) within a 20-minute drive. Florida is famed for its wildlife too, and there’s plenty of that hereabouts as well… It’s five minutes to Cockroach Bay Aquatic Preserve, and 20 minutes to the Manatee Viewing Center and the main entrance of Little Manatee River State Park. For animals that are a little less wild and free, the Busch Gardens zoo is 45 minutes away; once finished with that portion of the visit, it’s over to the Africa-themed theme park rides that make up the rest of Busch Gardens. Still have animal-viewing desires? Dive into the depths at aquariums in Sarasota and Tampa (both within 40 minutes), then stick around for beaches, botanic gardens and Ringling Bros sites at the former, and waterpark, butterfly garden, casino and the Amalie Arena at the latter. St Petersburg is within easy reach too (35 minutes), so be sure to explore that city’s Dali museum, gardens and historic fishing village.
