General
- Spacious luxury RV resort with fishing creek in south-west Florida
- A 10-minute drive to Punta Gorda and 20 minutes to Port Charlotte
- Outdoor heated pool and spa; lakeside clubhouse with gym and kitchen
Kayak the creeks and fish the Gulf from this fine spot in south-west Florida. A 10-minute drive from the coastal town of Punta Gorda, Creekside RV Resort is outdoor leisure on a grand scale. Alligator Creek passes right by the park, handily placed for kayaking and fishing trips with the minimum of fuss.
Nothing else about this place is on the minimum side, though: the landscaped sites are wide enough to fit the biggest rigs whilst keeping the place peaceful and uncrowded. Three comfort stations around the resort with roomy bathrooms, hot showers and 24-hour laundries ensure there’s little queuing for the facilities.
Looking out onto the five-acre lake is a well-equipped clubhouse with a kitchen and computer room, library, workout area and performance stage. Outside in the recreation area you can lounge on the beach, swim in the heated pool and soak in the spa, or perfect your golf swing on the driving range and putting green.
There’s so much here you could stay put, but it would be a pity to miss out on Punta Gorda; explore the town with free bike hire, taking in farmers’ markets, restaurants and bars, the collection of classic autos in Muscle Car City and the bravery of former generations in the Military History and Aviation Museum.

Local attractions
Fishing from the park on Alligator Creek is a fine way to pass a lazy afternoon or three; for bigger stuff head 15 minutes by car to Port Charlotte. The merging of the coastal waters with the freshwaters of the Peace, Myakka and Caloosahatchee rivers makes for a special ecosystem and a fishing paradise, packed with tarpon, snook, barracuda and grouper; take charters out to sea or explore the rivers by canoe or pontoon boats.
For beach days, Port Charlotte Beach State Park is a 20-minute drive away and popular for watersports, picnics and volleyball. If you’re seeking solitude, drive out to Pine Island (40 minutes) for deserted sands and shell-strewn coves; paddle through mangroves and swim in protected waters so clear you can see the teeming marine life on the seabed. For more wildlife encounters, kayak your way out to meet the manatees from Manatee Park (20 minutes) or to spend longer on the sea take a day cruise from Fort Myers half an hour away, down to Key West.
Further afield, it’s an hour to see the stingrays and sharks in Sarasota’s aquarium and experience the oddly cool quartz sands of the beach underfoot. A similar distance away, Naples (the other one) is known for its chic boutiques, fine dining and high culture.
