You can certainly expect to have a grand time at Camping A Grandella, a friendly site between Tapia de Casariego and Navia, and a mere few minutes’ drive from the Asturias coastline.
You’ll be greeted by Samuel, Yoli and Óscar, seasoned campers who’ve got a pretty good idea of what makes a great site (based on 15 years in the business as well as a whole heap of their own travels). The outcome is a place that’s really focused on the essentials for comfy stays and easy local roaming.
Years of experience has taught these folk that food’s always a priority, so they’ve set up their bar to serve not only cold beers and local wines (as vital as these may be) but also breakfasts, light meals and a selection of tasty snacks. Other necessaries (ice, toiletries, chemist bits and more snacks) are at the small shop, and there’s a barbecue area for outdoor cookouts.
Planning various outings is a cinch here too – there’s a wifi connection on the bar terrace, and a good stash of information in reception, including handy rundowns of the tide times and weather forecast. If you’re off out somewhere smart, they’ll even lend you an iron to take care of your travel-induced crumples...

The coast’s calling… and it’s likely to be beckoning you to start with a trip to Porcía beach, a splendid mix of fine sand and rocks five minutes’ drive away. Beyond the beach, there’s much more along to explore – perhaps take a walk around the fishing village of Viavélez (five minutes’ drive) or the lighthouse at Tapia de Casariego (10 minutes), or seek out more sands at Penarronda beach (15 minutes).
Leaving the seaside behind temporarily, it’s worth taking a look at what lies inland too – perhaps getting your boots on for hikes around the Cioyo or Oneta waterfalls, both of which are around 40 minutes away, or the ancient Celtic hill fort at Coaña (20 minutes).
If you’d like to roam on horseback, saddle up for a ride from the stables five minutes away in Arboces. For a bit more vroom in your outing, take to the karting track that’s also just a few minutes’ drive away.
