General

  • Stay among vineyards and chestnut trees on the stunning Amalfi coast
  • Under 20 minutes' drive from spectacular sandy beaches
  • Cookery lessons, restaurant and shop selling local wine and chestnuts

Scenic towns, pretty fishing villages, sandy beaches, loads of culture and heaps of homemade food… if that’s ticking all your getaway boxes, make tracks for Agriturismo Costiera Amalfitana, a family-friendly working farm in the village of Pietre, less than 10 minutes’ drive from Tramonti in the Salerno region of Campania.

Tramonti is one of the 13 villages and towns that make up the stunning Amalfi coast region, and Costiera Amalfitana is a fab base from which to explore. A handful of the colourful and scenic coastal towns, and the lush inland spots, are within half an hour of the site, and the rest are between half an hour and an hour and a half away – hail the public bus at the stop right outside the gates for a tour.

The site was designed as an escape from busy lives, so let the kids run riot with a few games, while you laze about beneath the chestnut trees or sign up for some cookery lessons.

Speaking of cookery, you won’t go hungry when you get peckish: there’s an on-site shop selling everything from wine and chestnuts to apricots, eggs and salted meat (all from the farm), or you can trip over to the restaurant, where you can tuck into a meal made with Agriturismo Costiera Amalfitana produce. For a change of scenery, try one of the restaurants within 40 minutes of the site, or nab supplies at the mini market in Pietre for a quiet night in.

Only one toilet, although not an issue as there were not too many people on site, would be an issue if there were more. The meal we had at the Agriturismo was over priced and poor value with not very exciting food on offer. We had a tow car with our motorhome, and was charged €5.00 per day which seemed excessive, most sites would charge one or two Euro. One just got the feeling that you were being overcharged for everything, not ripped off, just overcharged..

From the manager...

Very friendly and helpful owner. He provided excellent information about the best way to visit the Amalfi coast from the site (use the bus, the site owner has bus tickets which are 2 euro each). Shady level pitches. Good value fixed menu meal available in Agriturismo for 20 euro per head. Site located in hills with nice views. Fireflies gave a display every night 21 to 24 June!

    Disliked:

Only one shower which at 3 euro per time we felt was expensive compared to elsewhere. I guess it's because people have taken advantage in the past and stayed in too long using all the hot water. Take it steady on the wiggly road up, leave the other crazy drivers to get on with it!!

We had lots of space, good electrical hookup and stunning views. The family was welcoming and helpful. Although the road up to the site is a bit hair-raising with tight bends and plenty of traffic, we found it fine in a normal car and enjoyed the amazing views. It might not be suitable for a large campervan.

    Disliked:

There is only one toilet for the whole site and the shower is locked and charged separately (3 euros per shower). There were also several dogs and cats wandering about the site.

    Disliked:

We have a 7.5 metre motorhome so the drive to this site was treacherous on a long, poorly maintained mountain pass with no turning opportunity. The camping space was effectively the front garden with no facilities other than water, electric and waste. Number of dogs running loose and nowhere to walk. Good for tent and motorbike not a motorhome.

From the manager...

The camper who comes to the Amalfi Coast knows that he arrives in a unique place in the world, a special place and even a little difficult as the mountain reaches the sea and for this very reason it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The camper who came to us, knew that the only way to go was the one that he defines poorly managed and without the possibility of turning because it is a mountain road but it is also the only way that campers and buses can do tourist over 12 meters.
On the coastal road from Vietri to Positano and from Positano to Vietri, the transit ban for campers is in force throughout the year and therefore the only permitted road is the one that the reviewer has traveled. Our farm, even if small, is also the only possibility for a camper who wants to visit the Amalfi Coast! The fare is € 22.00 per day and includes drinking water, connection to the electricity for lighting the camper, a drain for clear water and a drain for dark waters, an open bathroom H24. We also give the opportunity to eat at our restaurant at reasonable prices. Furthermore, 50 meters from the parking area there is the town with many shops: bar, pizzeria, tobacconist, minimarket, butcher, fruit and vegetables, hairdresser, mechanic etc. We can't understand what else the camper claimed.
We should add that the review we should have done against the reviewer because he arrived in the company already nervous, angry that he was headed to Brindisi and for one night he stopped by us, wrong direction. company his medium-sized dog, without keeping it on a leash; to park his camper was not good no place even if at that time was the only camper in the farm. He behaved rudely without saying goodbye when he left despite having been greeted with a warm sense of hospitality: he was also offered a welcome limoncello! The 2 out of 10 rating made by this reviewer does not interest us at all, because people of this caliber are better off staying at home!

    Proprietari molto disponibili e cordiali.

    Disliked:

Local attractions

Explore the Sorrentine Peninsula along the Footpath of the Gods (start in Bomerano, just over an hour from Agriturismo Costiera Amalfitana) or by signing up for one of the cruises to Capri organised by the site.

This part of Italy is mighty historic, so start your stay by taking a step into the past at Pompeii, less than 40 minutes from the site. Archaeological museums in Naples and Salerno give a deep dive into the area’s history, but you can also find out loads of geeky info at the Coral Museum in Ravello and the handful of museums in Amalfi.

For a more stately time, visit the stunning Villa Rufolo and Villa Cimbrone (make sure to stroll along the spectacular Terrazza dell’Infinito at the latter), and the gardens of Palazzo Mezzacapo, all within 40 minutes of Costiera Amalfitana.

Kids in tow starting to baulk at the history of it all? Bring them on an underground tour at the Grotta dello Smeraldo, or pack their swimming kit for a day at Valle dell’Orse waterpark.
