General
- On a working farm in the stunningly pretty Pollino National Park
- A 15-minute drive from Mormanno and 20 minutes from botanical gardens
- Gastro site with top-notch menus for grownups and kids
Fancy hols full of lashings and lashings of oh-so-tasty food? Make that a near guarantee with stays at Agricampeggio L'Oasi del Pollino, a family-run and family-friendly site on a working farm (Papa Domenica) 15 minutes’ drive from the Cosenza town of Mormanno, in Calabria.
The site is particularly well placed in Pollino National Park, with spectacular views over mountains and valleys from the terraced pitches and other common areas. This location also puts the site within easy reach of explores of the Neolithic cave drawings in Grotta del Romito, rafting along the Lao, and wanders around Lavenda Park botanical gardens, all within 20 minutes.
More relaxed days spent on site will allow guests to soak up the views from pitches and make the most of the nature hereabouts by lazing about on the site’s large green space. Prefer to stay put at pitches? They all have water and electricity, so smartphones, tablets and laptops can be kept charged for modern entertainment.
The big draw here, though, is the restaurant. Papa Domenica began life as a farm cultivating fruit, veg and olives, and breeding hares and deer, before adding sheep, goats and pigs to the mix. Now, the site has spectacular menus for grownups and kids, featuring lots of local foods made with authentic ingredients.

Adventurous types might like to start off stays with an afternoon of fun-filled warfare at the paintball centre 10 minutes’ drive away, but if that’s much too active, more sedate days can be had nearby too.
Make the most of stays in Pollino National Park by making pitstops at some of its most scenic spots: it’s about 35 minutes to Ponte del Diavolo – a narrow bridge with spectacular canyon views – and 50 minutes to bathing in the hot springs at Grotta delle Ninfe.
History buffs have plenty round here to choose from too. It’s 45 minutes to the small town of Altomonte, where visitors have a Gothic-Romanesque cathedral, a castle, a Norman tower, Dominican cloisters and a civic museum full of works by famed artists to traipse about. Towards the Ionian coast, a 50-minute drive will land guests at the National Archaeological Museum of Sibaritide, which is dedicated to the ancient Sibarites.
Keen on some seaside days? The site is about an hour from the 80-kilometre Riviera dei Cedri coastline on the Tyrrhenian Sea. Stops along here must include the beaches, waterpark and castle of Praia a Mare (an hour and 10 minutes), the limestone caves of Dino Island (boat from Praia a Mare), and the beaches of Scalea (one hour).
