Spend long and peaceful days at Campingpark Ohmbachsee, where you'll be treated to spectacular views over the Ohmbachsee and the prospect of peace and quiet surrounded by nature. Your travel here shouldn't be particularly arduous – there may be next to no traffic noise but in fact you’re only 10 minutes from the autobahn so there’s easy access from other parts of Germany as well as France and Luxembourg. And when you're on site? You have weeks' worth of options to pick from, such as the lake with excellent fishing spots, boats and pedalos for hire and hiking trails along the water – or hire a bike on site to pedal off waterside too. Sporty types of all sorts are well served overall: there’s a tennis court with floodlights; pitches and courts for football, volleyball or beach volleyball; a miniature golf course; a bowling alley and table tennis. There's also (of course) a pool, for sunbathing alongside as well as swimming in, and kids have their own space over at the playground. Toilet blocks have, much like the rest of the site, been furnished with numerous options. Showers, baby bathroom and disabled access are all available, along with a hairdressing room to keep the barnet looking its finest. If you’d like to have a really long soak in the bath, treat yourself to the luxury of hiring a private bathroom (minimum hire two days – although spending all that time in the bath is not recommended). The on-site restaurant is open morning, noon and night seven days a week.

Local attractions

The Potzberg Wildpark and Bird of Prey Zoo, a half-hour drive away, has animals including Highland cattle, goats, deer, horses and raccoons as well as the birds of prey that are the stars of the show. Experience flying through the trees for yourself at the FunForest adventure park, 20 minutes away. There are eight treetop courses plus two designed especially for kids – climb your way through the trees on a series of ropes, beams and other stepping stones before flying back to earth on the zipline. If you pack your swimmers too you can have a paddleboarding session on the lake afterwards. Once you're back on the ground you can descend even further at Schlossberghöhlen – Europe’s largest colourful sandstone caves – a 25-minute drive from the site. A guided tour tells you about the many lives of these caves, from sand mine to kids’ playground to wartime bunker.
