Welcome to the site

General

  • Family-friendly site in the scenic Pays de Redon
  • On-site waterpark with heated pool, paddling pool and waterslide
  • Less than an hour from Nantes and Guérande

Torn between hols with a lot of go-go-go and a getaway where you barely need to move? At Camping de L’Hermitage, a family-friendly site on the outskirts of Guémené-Penfao and 20 minutes’ drive from the town of Redon in the Loire-Atlantique department of Pays de la Loire, you can have the best of both worlds.

While you’d be forgiven for not leaving the site for your entire stay (there’s a waterpark, if that’s any indication), this is still a top spot to use as a base for exploration: it’s in the Pays de Redon, and there are loads of waymarked hiking trails, including a highly recommended route along the Nantes-Brest canal nearby.

There’s plenty more to do on site when you get tired of wandering the countryside (or just plain tired): as well as the waterpark (which has a heated pool, paddling pool and waterslide), there’s a book corner, games room, tennis court and badminton court, table tennis and table football, a playground for the kids and plenty of evening entertainment.

You’re certainly going to work up an appetite here, so you’ll be pleased to hear that you’re going to be well catered for foodwise too. This is France, so you can expect the usual fresh bread and pastries every morning (on request), but there’s also a snack bar open daily during the high season, and a bar with a covered terrace where you can wash down all your eats.

If you’d prefer to look after yourself, stock up on edible essentials at the supermarket in Guémené-Penfao (it’s a five-minute drive) or venture off site for a slap-up meal at one of the restaurants within 15 minutes.

Please note

Your dog must be tattooed or microchipped.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

No bachelor/bachelorette parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

The outdoor swimming pool is open between 07/04 and 08/29 (subject to weather conditions).

Stayed as a stopover for 2 nights.
    Lovely, friendly helpful owners.
Toilet block, although old fashioned, spotless and best showers all summer! Vicinity to the beautiful town(best crepes/gallettes restaurant ever!)
Very small pool, but very clean poolside, with a separate slide pool which kept our 9yr old busy! (some loose tiles)

The owner was not on the site to check us in: A note was left on the reception door saying they’d be back at 8pm, by which time it would of course be too pitch black to put up a tent. We weren’t sure where to pitch our tent as it wasn’t clear where the designated area for tents was.

It would have been nice to have been welcomed and to have received an explanation of what and where the facilities on the site and locale were.

Friendly helpful staff. Cash only so be prepared (we paid on card at all other sites stayed at).

    Disliked:

They had a party on Friday night, which wasn't a problem, however the music didn't stop until Midnight and the crowd didn't disperse until 30-45mins later. I must insist too, the music was extremely loud (not turned down at any point). We believe the celebrations should have finished much earlier, to allow the campers not involved to get to sleep.

Everything about this site as an English family excelled. It could not be friendlier, kids did not want to leave at all. We only used it as a stop over for three days but could have easily stayed for two weeks.
The town is only a short walk away with a supermarket, bakery, bars etc.
The owners speak good English which helped massively.
    Everything is clean and tidy.

Local attractions

Planning a family holiday? There’s plenty nearby to keep the kids occupied: within around an hour’s drive, there are two tropical animal parks, a treetop adventure park, the Océarium aquarium at Le Croisic, Planète Sauvage animal park and La Boissière du Doré zoo, plus beaches at La Baule, Pornichet and Saint-Brevin-les-Pins.

There’s lots for grownups too, with Redon’s St Sauveur Abbey and Musee de la Batelliere de L’Ouest within 25 minutes, and Nantes a 50-minute drive from site. Make tracks for Nantes to poke around the Château des Ducs de Bretagne and the highly-recommended Jardin des Plantes de Nantes, and for high-end shopping at Passage Pommeraye; you should also take a trek to the must-see Machines of the Isles of Nantes.

Turning towards the coast, visit Guérande to crawl along the ramparts, wander into the salt marshes and visit the doll museum, or head to Saint Nazaire to explore the Submarine L’Espadon, the Escal’Atlantic historic ocean liner experience and the scenic boardwalk.

Get out in nature with a day (or two, or three) navigating Brière Regional Natural Park, less than an hour from the site.
