- Small and peaceful site in the Perigord Limousin Regional Natural Park
- Half an hour's drive from Limoges, Reynou zoo, zipwires and go-karting
- Pool and games room; airport and shop runs and breakfasts on request
There’s no place like home, so the song goes. But if, by chance, home doesn’t mean forested valleys and granite hills, castles, lakes and cities steeped in history, try A Place in Haute-Vienne instead. This peaceful site is slap bang in the centre of the Perigord Limousin Regional Nature Park, surrounded by wooded hills 20 minutes’ drive from the medieval walled town of Rochechouart.
‘Place’ doesn’t do justice to this site, which has lovely touches like old farm carts, ladders turned into trellises for colourful blooms, and oil drums repurposed as tables dotted around the grounds... along with secluded corners where you might find a hammock strung between trees.
It’s more than a pretty picture: there’s an outdoor pool for guests' use too, all safely gated off so no fretting over smaller folk taking impromptu dips. The games room tempts competitive sorts with a pool table, table football and air hockey, and you can borrow adult mountain bikes to explore the area.
The site also has individual firepits, a large communal one, and private kitchen areas with fridges, hobs and sinks if you don’t fancy doing your cooking caveman style.
Drinks and basic supplies are sold on site; for a fee you can book airport collections and drops, supermarket runs, arrange daily deliveries of breakfast to your door and have a massage.

Local attractions
Thousands of kilometres of cycle trails wind round the Limousin region, and many can be accessed right from the site. Further afield, the granite hills and forested valleys of the Monts de Blond (45 minutes’ drive) have challenging rides and invigorating hikes, with the added bonus of streams and lakes to cool off in.
Lakes are a theme round here: there’s a pair of fishing lakes within a five-minute drive, and it’s 50 minutes to the multi-faceted lakeside leisure centre of Saint-Pardoux, where you can swim, kayak, windsurf, fish or simply sunbathe on the sandy beaches.
Away from the water (if you must), there’s go-karting at Parc Bellevue, treetop ropewalks and zipwires at Tarz-en-Arbre, both half an hour away. To see other creatures swinging through the trees, go meet the pygmy ouistiti, smallest monkey in the world, along with giraffes, panthers and dozens of other exotic species at Parc Zoo du Reynou, in the grounds of a château 30 minutes from the site.
Many fine examples of the above are nearby: the châteaux of Rochechouart, Lastours, Châlucet and Montbrun are all easily reached within in an hour. There’s more history to be had in Limoges (30 minutes), with its 10th-century crypt, 13th-century cathedral (only finished in the 19th) and museum of porcelain; plenty of places to max out your credit card on ceramic souvenirs too...
