It's free, quick and easy!
- On the banks of the River Seine, a kilometre from Caudebec-en-Caux
- Less than an hour's drive from Normandy's Alabaster Coast
- Covered swimming pool with waterslides and hydro massage chairs
Seen the Seine? You can hardly miss it if you’re staying at Camping Barre Y Va – only a road separates the site from the mighty river and some fab vantage spots for watching the ships and boats passing by.
This relaxed riverside spot is in the Boucles de la Seine Normande Regional Natural Park, and equally well placed for the useful amenities of Caudebec-en-Caux (a lovely little town a kilometre away) and the hiking and bike trails that run through the neighbouring forest. Seaside jaunts are a cinch too: Normandy’s Alabaster Coast is less than an hour’s drive away, for easy day trips to the Etretat cliffs and Honfleur harbour or access to ferries at Le Havre.
On site, there’s a covered swimming pool, heated to a balmy 28ºC and niftily kitted out with hydro massage chairs that make a tiptop place to keep an eye on the nippers as they zoom down the waterslides or play with the fountains and jets in the paddling pool. Elsewhere around the site are more fun and games in the form of a miniature golf course, a playground and an outdoor trampoline.
Opposite the pool, the restaurant/bar caters for all sorts of whims, including snacks, drinks, ice creams and meals to eat in or take away. And don’t worry about overindulging – the site’s outdoor gym makes a fine place to work off few calories in the fresh air.

Local attractions
Start your Seine-side sojourn with a 15-minute stroll along the riverbank to Caudebec-en-Caux, to visit the Seine museum and wander around some of the town’s historic buildings, including two 14th-century towers and the gothic Notre-Dame church (reputedly declared by Henry IV to be the the most beautiful in his kingdom).
Boat trips and canoe excursions can be taken from the town as well, and there’s a riding stables 15 minutes’ drive away for lessons and woodland hacks. If you’d rather explore on foot or by bike there are heaps of trails around the Boucles de la Seine Normande Regional Natural Park, including the lovely Fruit Route through the orchards.
If you’re hankering for some sea air, it should take less than an hour to drive to the coast – head for the gleaming white cliffs of Etretat, the pretty port of Honfleur or the lengthy stretch of beach just north of Le Havre.
