General

  • Peaceful site by the Loire river, overlooking Métairie island
  • Direct access to the Loire à Vélo bike path to Tours and Amboise
  • Summer restaurant with homegrown and local produce, plus concerts

Take a trip to Indre-et-Loire and base yourself at the lovely leafy surrounds of Camping Les Acacias for prime access to the Loire, tours of Tours and châteaux galore. A friendly welcome awaits a couple of kilometres from La Ville-aux-Dames, close to the riverbank and overlooking the little island of Métairie.

However you roam it’s easy to get here: it’s close to an exit off the D751, 10 minutes’ drive from an intercity train station and a 15-minute drive from Tours airport. Once you’re through the gates, settle in for a peaceful time on a site filled with trees, grass and plenty of shaded spots.

One of the highlights of the site is its food: the Camping Les Acacias owners have set up a permaculture farm with an orchard, kitchen, garden and henhouse, all providing the freshest of produce for Le Jardin des Dames on-site summer restaurant. Pizzas, steak, salad and classic French desserts are all on the menu here, along with a kids’ menu and a concert stage with live music on some evenings. Menus are renewed every week.

For some gentle activity, table tennis, pétanque and a well-equipped play area with slides, a trampoline and a summer bouncy castle are all on site.

Barbecues are welcome and a supermarket is a five-minute drive or 20-minute walk away for supplies. Tours is 15 minutes’ drive from the site, or about half an hour by bike.

Road noise, advertised as on the banks of the river,,, it wasn’t! , it was a 20 minute walk 😳

From the manager...

Hello !
Thank you for leaving a comment. It is true that there is a road near the campsite. It would be nice from you to let us know where i was adviced that the campsite was on the banks of the river because you are right, it is not.We have some pitches near the road and we have many other pitches far away from the road, much quiter. All our pitches have electricity and are quite spacious. Next time, when you book with us, you can ask for a quite pitch. The Loire is on the other side of the road and 20 minutes walk is not much to get there and those 20 minutes walk are also the safest way to get to the river.

Arrived after a long journey from Calais. Over priced fish and chips was not a great start to our holiday food experience as the fish was still frozen when it was served and had to be returned! We were given replacements which were ok but we probably could of done a lot better (and cheaper) getting some frozen fish from the local Intermarche and cooking it ourselves!

From the manager...

Hello Claire,

Thank you for taking your time to leave us a comment. We are sorry (again) to read that you didn't appreciate what you ordered at the restaurant. A shame, the begining of your food experience in France has been spoiled because of a fish and chips.
We hope anyway that you appreciated the 2 glasses of beer that we offered you as a souvenir and that you wanted so much.

Some pitches are right next to the road, so it is recommended to stay on the other side of the campsite

From the manager...

Hello !
Thank you so much for your nice comment.
In our campsite, most of the pitches are quite wide. Some are near the road (it doesn't bother many people) and many many others are on the other side of the campsite. All of them have electricity and we are happy as well to say that some are on hard ground and others on grass.
If you come back, don't hesitate to ask for a pitch away from the road.

The shaded wooded area was very nice but the rest of the pitches were too exposed to the sun. Very uncomfortable in a particularly hot spell. The site was very dry and dusty. No a lot they could do about that but very little effort to landscape and dress with flowering shrubs and flowers which would have greatly improved the ambience.

The lady in reception when we arrived was very friendly and welcoming

    Disliked:

This seemed more like a "stop-over" site and was in need of some investment.

There is a "restaurant " on site with the most limited menu. Not a site to stay on for any length of time - perfectly adequate for a one or two night stop over.

On our pitch there was a loose and broken concrete cover over two holes beside the water tap - one of which my wife stood on inadvertently and fell into the 400 mm hole, badly scraping her leg.

From the manager...

Hello Denis,
We are sorry to read what happened to your lady. Next time, don't hesitate to let know our receptionnists so that we can try to solve the problem as soon as possible.
Thank you very much for leaving a comment. It always help us to get better.
You are right, we have a nice family campsite situated in the woods with many pitches in the shade and others in the sun. The kind of pitch that many people ask us in spring time or autumn so that we can please people all year long which is perfect because we are open all year long.
In summer, the shaded pitches are obviously given in priority to people who have booked in advance. We have also the chance to offer hard pitches for campers or caravan and pitches with grass so it can also be confortable for people who come with their tent.
As mentionned, the site was dry and dusty, yes ! We have had over 40 degres several days in a row and no rain for several weeks. Putting flowers to make everything look perfect wouldn't be a great idea. Flowers and grass burn. Above all, we had some official water restriction in all the region, we were not allowed to give water to the plants and grass. So yes, it was dry and dusty an it might happen again some other summers.
In the restaurant, we serve 3 different kinds of menus that we change every weeks and among them always one is vegetarian. We have decided to give less options (as our chef cooks all the meals himself from starters to desserts) but defenetly better quality as all our food is fresh and the veggie dishes made from the vegetable from our own garden.
Hopefully, we might see you again in spring or automn.

Thank you very much for your nice comment. Most of our pitches are quite spacious and all of them have the electricity.
Not possible to find the waste water point ? Did you come and ask at the reception to ask ? All the staff speaks English, don't hesitate next time. And yes ! We have a waste water point on the site.

Local attractions

Saddle up for a day (or several) of cycling: this is prime territory for biking and the site has adult and kids’ bikes for hire. The big trail here is La Loire à Vélo, an 800-kilometre track flanking the river down to the coast. Don’t feel obliged to ride the whole thing; the seven-kilometre riverside route into Tours makes a most pleasant portion for many guests.

Another excellent use of bikes is a tour of the area’s vineyards and wineries – there’s a cluster of them within a 45-minute cycle: source a sparkling wine on your travels and sample it as part of a riverside picnic.

The Loire region is rightly famed for its castles, and there are several within striking distance here, either by bike or in the car. It’s 15 minutes’ drive to the gorgeous gardens of Château de Valmer, and 20 minutes (or an hour’s riverside cycle) to Amboise, to visit the medieval Château d’Amboise and Château du Clos Lucé, former residence of Leonardo da Vinci.
