Enter Sonnenresort Maltschacher See, a dog-friendly site that’s just 250 metres from the Maltschacher See, meaning that there are watersports right on your doorstep (sailing, paddleboarding, fishing and wild swimming included).
Look out for the distant peaks – there are views of the Nockberge Biosphere Reserve, a set of grass-carpeted mountains, accessible within 40 minutes’ drive and a top location for all things wildlife spotting and hiking.
What’s the vibe at Sonnenresort Maltschacher See? Quiet, carefree and meditative are words that come to mind. It’s a wildlife haven, too, with a gently rolling landscape and 43 hectares for young or old to relax, play sports and swim. The site has an extensive sports programme, a beach and lawn, an indoor pool with a children’s pool and sauna, a kids' club and a lake kiosk providing a self-service restaurant.
When it comes to handy practical facilities, there’s plenty of those too. The facilities block includes toilets (including accessible toilets) and hot-water showers and laundry facilities with washing machines, dryers and irons. To round things off, your pets are welcome on site and all pitches have water connections.
This is a hot base for all outdoor pursuits, as you might be able to tell. Seek out watersports, yoga, biking, wakeboarding and hiking at Carinthia’s largest lake, Wörthersee (15 minutes’ drive) and more water activities at Lake Ossiach (20 minutes).

With so many lakes and other gorgeous natural landscapes, your activities in Carinthia might include fishing, hiking, cycling or paragliding. Head to the tourist office in Feldkirchen in Kärnten (10 minutes’ drive) to hire yourself a bicycle or e-bike and get out onto the local trails or dive straight into extreme sports like paragliding in Gerlitzen (45 minutes).
There are small boutiques, regular cultural events like festivals and historic buildings such as the Pfarrkirche Maria im Dorn in Feldkirchen. The town centre is handy for investigating the local cuisine too, as there are plenty of cafés and restaurants…
Well-fed, perhaps a pampering session at the Thermal Römerbad (35 minutes) spa next? Or cruising hairpin bends around the Alps by bike or car along the 35-kilometre Nockalm Road (approximately 45 minutes) or the 17-kilometre Villach Alpine Road (approximately 50 minutes)?
There are waterfalls and crags around Liebenfels (15 minutes), but for something more historical, Burgbau (40 minutes) is a construction site where a castle is being built using medieval methods only.
Those of you with kids to entertain will be happy to find attractions nearby like the Heidi Alm children's adventure park (40 minutes) and the Reptilienzoo Happ (20 minutes) zoo.

No refunds/discounts for inclement weather, late arrivals or early departures.
If you need to cancel or amend your booking, please give as much notice as possible so that someone else has the chance to book. You may wish to buy holiday insurance for cancelations and for your property/injury whilst away.
