General

  • Quiet site two miles from Penbryn beach
  • Ten-minute drive from the Wales Coastal Path
  • Pitches with views of the sea

Want to feel the sand between your toes without finding it in every nook and cranny later on? Brynawelon Caravan and Camping Park, half a mile from the village of Sarnau in west Wales, is the best of both worlds. While away the day on Penbryn beach, two miles away, then return to the blessedly sand-free site.

Brynawelon is well placed for exploring the Ceridigion countryside and the Welsh coast: walkers can join the Wales Coastal Path, which passes Penbryn beach and spans the length of the Ceridigion coastline and beyond, or follow trails and loops around Cardigan, 20 minutes' drive away. For a more urban experience, stop off in the town of Cardigan where there's plenty to do, like visiting the medieval Cilgerran Castle or shopping at the Guildhall Market.

When you want to spend time on the sand, Penbryn isn’t your only option – Aberport, Tresaith and Llangranog beaches are all within 10 minutes’ drive, and are top spots for swimming and surfing.

Brynawelon is in a quiet coastal area, but you’d don’t have to feel stranded. In Sarnau, less than 10 minutes’ walk from the site, you can stock up on camping gear at the army surplus store or call in to the farm shop to pick up some Welsh delicacies. For any other essentials, a quick trip to Brynhoffnant village one mile away should take care of everything.

We liked the area and site. Lovely, friendly and approachable owners who work very hard. Nice location to some amazing beaches. Good range of flat pitches. Good washing up area. Kids enjoyed the play room. Very clean showers and toilets. Small selection of camping essentials and Campingaz on site.
Free ice cream for kids on arrival went down well. Although some areas are a work in progress the site is very well maintained.

    Disliked:

Too busy during bank holiday weekend resulting in very close pitching, noisy nights, no space for kids to play and very low water pressure (literally a dribble) in the showers. Owners are aware of this.
Some guidelines around noise levels at night would be advisable.
Some amenities seemed expensive i.e. phone charging and washing machines/tumble dryers.
Could have benefitted from having kettle/toaster/microwave instead of the 2 unused dishwashers.
Expensive for dogs (£2.50 a day)
A play area for kids would be a nice addition too.

Amazing Welcome! The owners of this fabulous site couldn't do enough for you. My daughter & family were camping & got flooded in their tent on evening. They arranged 2 tents to be put up for them the next day which was a real holiday saver as we would have had to go home early. The facilities were great, lovely hot water, all new toilets, great cabin for the kids with lots of books, toys, DVDs, games. Spare beach gear, chairs, surf boards etc. Karen was an absolute star! She went out of her way to ensure that we were very happy. There are so many beautiful beaches within a 10 minute drive, you are totally spoilt for choice. There's a garage shop that stocks absolutely everything just a 2 minute drive from the site too. We will definitely be returning to this lovely site. This site is a plus with young children as it’s nice and small so you know where they are at all times! Thanks so much xx

The site is owned and ran by a wonderfully friendly and helpful couple. It is quiet, has wonderful views. Fantastic location for many quiet less commercialised beaches and not far from Cardigan. The site has great facilities and visitors can even borrow DVDs, books and Board Games for free!

    Disliked:

It would be lovely to have something for younger children to do. Like a little play area or something.

Well-maintained little campsite in a fantastic location for walking on the coastal path and exploring beautiful beaches. The owners are very friendly and helpful and are keen to ensure your stay is as comfortable as possible. The toilets and showers are kept very clean. Very nice idea to have a room where children could borrow books, games and play equipment! We had a fantastic family game of Cluedo and borrowed crabbing things to go to New Quay.

    Disliked:

Not really a dislike but we stayed on a bank holiday weekend so it was very busy which meant limited space for the children to play. However, at quieter times there would be enough green space, although there is no designated play area as such.

A lovely little site that’s very convenient for the beaches near by.

    Disliked:

The grey slate on the hard standing was a little sharp. It needs bedding in a bit more. I prefer gravel but that’s just my preference.

As this was my first time camping I didn’t know what to expect but found the owner to be very friendly and helpful, the site has everything you need , dishwashers, washing machine, tumble dryer which I did not expect. The shower and toilet facilities were ample size for the size of camp and very clean with plenty of supplies (toilet roll, soap ) again I thought when you went camping you would take your own . I will definitely be booking another stay and will certainly be recommending the site to friends and family. The site was very reasonably priced and also central to access other areas such Newquay Aberaeron Aberystwyth etc. 10/10 fab weekend thank you .

Local attractions

If you want history with a twist, pay a visit to one of the unusual museums in the area. At the Internal Fire museum, less than five minutes away by car, see one of the oldest working diesel engines in the world. Follow the flock to the National Wool Museum and see the story of wool from fleece to fabric or embrace your inner child at the Museum of Childhood, both 20 minutes from Brynawelon.

Experience a statelier time and take in the views of the Ceridigion countryside with a trip on one of the steam trains at Gwili Railway, Teifi Valley Railway or the Vale of Rheidol Railway, all within 45 minutes of the site.

When the kids get tired of steam trains and toys (how could they, you ask…), bring them to Cardigan Island Coastal Farm Park, where they can get up close with friendly farm animals and try to spot dolphins, seals and skylarks in the nature reserve.

For an even sweeter experience, buzz on over to the Honey Farm in New Quay – 10 miles from Brynawelon – where you can visit the meadery, see the bees at work and have a seat in the tearoom to taste the end result. Buy honey, mead and beeswax products in the farm shop before you leave.
