General
- Peaceful site on a 20-acre farm site five minutes' drive from Whitland
- Folly Farm, Oakwood Theme Park and beaches within a half-hour drive
- On the Pembrokeshire/Carmarthenshire border with easy access from A40
Peaceful quality time in the splendid Carmarthenshire countryside is rather the speciality at Strawhill Campsite. A couple of miles from the village of Whitland, this site is just the right distance, say the owners, for a mix of fab rural views and easy access to the village’s pub, shops and takeaways (five minutes’ drive away).
The smallholding stretches out to just over 20 acres, but it’s no longer a working farm. So, with no farm animals on site (other than two resident Border Collies), guests are welcome to wander around and take strolls on the wooded footpath that runs around the pitching field. For longer ambles, the public footpath that runs past the farm goes down to the village; and if that’s not long enough, you’re not far from the Pembrokeshire Coast Path (which should satisfy most walkers’ appetites with its 186 miles…)
Those who’ve brought the kids along might want to skip the lengthy hikes and instead aim for the beach or the many family attractions just over the border in Pembrokeshire (Folly Farm, Oakwood Theme Park and Manor Wildlife Park are all within a half-hour drive).
The farm’s owners had their eye on opening a campsite for many years, and were keen to make it a peaceful place for some quality family time. With that in mind, they’ve made sure there’s plenty of space but kept the facilities down to just showers, toilets and a washing-up area. Barbecues are welcome, and there’s a firepit for each pitch to make building campfires easy.

Thanks for you review, we appreciate all feedback and we're glad you indicated you'd stay with us again. With regards to our road we live off a small unclassified road which is mainly accessed via people who live along the road, however many of our neighbours are farmers and therefore when it is time to harvest the crops, collect the silage and make hay then it can be busy with tractors. We have indicated this in our details on the site info page so guests are aware, we cannot however give any guarantees about farm traffic as it is very much weather dependent. When you came in August the main farm work had been completed. Thanks once again and we'd love to welcome you back in the future. |

Fantastic Experience - highly recommended
From the manager...
Thank you so much for this wonderful review. We try very hard to create a relaxing peaceful environment but also try to ensure we have catered for you needs in a non intrusive way. The beds were really important for us when setting up our bell tents so wanted to ensure for the adults we had a proper bed with a comfortable mattress so you can enjoy a peaceful nights sleep and not on the floor or on an air mattress. We're so pleased you all enjoyed your stay, thank you so much for choosing us and we would love to welcome you back in the future. |

Will go back - highly recommended get away
From the manager...
Thank you for your review, we're glad you enjoyed your stay and that you'd come back! With regards to your comments they are very valuable to us and we are constantly seeking ways to improve guests experience. With regards to tea towels we do advise that guests need to bring their own towels however we have taken this feedback on board and will now supply a tea towel with our bell tents. Regarding the showers as they are gas powered it is difficult to set them up so that guests can control the shower temperature (because for safety reasons the units have to be outside). I'm sorry they were too hot or too cold if you had mentioned it we would have adjusted them for you, I have tested them today and all seem to set to suitable temperatures although I accept this is something which is down to personal preference. We'd love to welcome you back next year and thank you once again for choosing us for your break. |

Local attractions
With seven miles of sand, you’ll be in for a lengthy stroll along Pendine Sands (25 minutes’ drive)… you’ll get across quicker on hooves (horse rides are popular here) but if you’d rather relax in the sea first, there’s plenty of scope for a paddle. The sea’s a playground at Saundersfoot (25 minutes) - for fans of watersports, canoes or sailing boats are some of the vehicles of choice, or there’s windsurfing and fishing too.
Tenby (half an hour) is a rather handsome seaside town to add to your coastal wishlist, but when you’re ready to look inland, that’s no problem either. Tenby has town trails, Cwm Deri Vineyard (25 minutes) runs tastings for wannabe wine connoisseurs and Pembroke Castle (35 minutes) is on-hand for anyone who’d like to see the keep, dungeon tower and exhibition rooms.
For those of you whose pack has some younger members, the Heatherton World of Activities (half an hour) should help to entertain. With high ropes in the trees, go-karts on the ground and other activities like miniature golf and paintballing, there are a few ways to get moving.
